Post subject: | Using TV instead of PC Display |
Hi, I finally managed to install the newest nVidia driver (needed for my onboard video to play nice with linux) and the whole installation of C5R27 went smoothly from there on; see http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... c&start=30 But I did all this with my PC display hooked up to the PVR (I was worried about destroying my new Sony 32XBR4!). I presume that the setup detects the display at various points. But I now want to use my TV! In the KM pamphlet, there was a note about what to do if using a TV-Out. But I'm using HDMI-DVI. My questions are then: 1. Does that note still apply to my case? (HDMI-DVI input and a widescreen HDTV) 2a. If no, then what should I do to make sure I don't destroy the TV while I run the installation and later when I watch stuff, etc? 2b. If yes, then is this note still up to date? and at which point do I make these changes: **ENSURE** that /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 contains: HorizSync "30 - 50" VertRefresh "60" Thanks!! FRA |

I believe the only danger of destroying your TV comes into play at initial installation (you get around that by typing "tv" at the first boot from the CD). I have 3 frontends running that I initially configured with a CRT monitor attached, then simply shut them off, connected them to the TV and turned them on. No problems.

Thanks for the info. I'll just hook it up to the tv then. And sorry I posted here.. I thought it was an installation issue, since I was wondering what steps during the installation I have to take not to destroy the tv. But I can see why it is NOT an installation issue! Sorry again. And thanks for the help. |
