I just had to take the time to gratefully thank Cecil for all of his hard work and the large amounts of time that he poured into this last release. With the switchover to Schedules Direct, I know I was worried as to whether a new KnoppMyth release would make it out before my box's listings were gone, and also worried as to how painful a re-install would be, especially since I use my 350's tv-out. I was thrilled to find out that my fears were unfounded, as Sunday evening, after R5F27 came out, I had an upgraded, working KnoppMyth box, using Schedules Direct listings *and* outputting via the 350 tv-out in about 2 hours! I used the 350 tv-out script during the install, and the only change I had to make was in my xorg.conf file, which was referencing /dev/fb1. I changed it to /dev/fb0, and I was up and running! I'm loving all the new features, which are a treat for me, as before the upgrade, I was running R5A30.2. So thanks again, Cecil, for all your hard work, especially the extra time you took to make sure the 350 tv-out script worked! And thanks also to the testing team as well! It's great to see the strides this project has made over the last couple of years. |

Cecil et al, It just keeps getting easier. This upgrade (fourth or fifth in 19 months) was the smoothest yet. I didn't have to muck with Apache configuration files, the RRD databases were retained in the move, everything just worked like a charm. And MythWeather works, unlike the default install. Rocks. Fantastic job, folks. Your hard work and diligence is much appreciated. |

I wanted to throw my thanks into this thread as well. Cecil, Dale, the testers and this community have all held this newbie's hand for the last year or so. And in thinking about the jump from F1 to F27 and the 25 unseen in-between versions that were not ready for prime time, I realized the care that goes into KM. It's a labor of love no doubt, and at times the old pros must must feel like they just can't take another newbie question that has been asked and answered a hundred times before, but somehow they get answered again anyway. I can't even imagine all the code tweaks, fresh installs, upgrade tests and hardware compatibility trials you all run... and then you come here and walk a newbie thru an obscure problem... well, let me just say thanks. I know 'thanks' seems a bit... pedestrian and underwhelming, but it is sincere. |

Hear hear. Kudos to Cecil and crew for getting this release out. All of us who caught our breath when we heard Zap2It was discontinuing listings are now breathing easier. My upgrade from D1 had a few minor configuration bumps, but nothing catastrophic, and no loss of data whatsoever. Considering the large variation in platforms being supported, it continues to amaze me how well it comes together. |

Thanks Cecil, tjc, human, and all the other testers and contributors. I have a Dragon clone (v 1.1) that I just auto-upgraded from R5F1 to R5F27. Most everything was very smooth and trouble-free. I was kind of concerned about the move to Schedules Direct, but lo and behold the script that ran after my upgrade prompted me to enter mythtv-setup to reconfig my sources. After I did this (I had already signed up for SD), I was getting new listings! I had to manually restore a saved copy of /etc/asound.conf to fix my spdif audio output, but other than that, no other major issues. Thanks again, folks! Let me pile on add another big THANKS to cecil and the testers. Smoothest upgrade ever. Only thing that didn't work correctly was detection for my MCE remote. Restoring hardware.conf from my old setup and that worked fine (it didn't work the previous time either). FIRST TIME i haven't had to touch xorg.conf. First time i didn't hit the 'small fonts' problem. Graphics just worked out of the box. WOOT! (I *HATE* messing with X configs). And with the new drivers, any video tearing seems completely gone! Only things i had to do: -was fix the remote -install my config file for madwifi (new madwifi seems a lot faster/stable for my network) -install my grabber script -enable ssh access -install pineapple -turn on webmin (and the new version of this is a big improvement). Total upgrade time was probably <30 minutes. STELLAR! |

I'll add my thanks as well. I'm new to this distro. I was running myth under fc5 and with the listings issue decided to make a clean start. Install could not have gone smoother. I'm going to resurrect another "broken" desktop pc and create a Knoppmyth front-end. |

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm a new mythtv user. I bought a pvr-350 to put in an old HP desktop thinking that the setup would be nice an easy. It wasn't. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the mpeg decoding video out to work. I spent 20 hours installing mythdora 5 times (each time trying something different) researching ivtv drivers, starting from scratch in ubuntu, until I finally decided to try knoppmyth. It just works! I had a few minor issues like the line /dev/fb1 needed to be /dev/fb0 in my xorg.conf and my remote was responding sporadically, but they were both easily fixed with the help of this forum and the setup guide for this release. All in all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for spending your time to create a linux/mythtv distribution that is up to date, usable, full of features, and best of all, functional. |

This is by far the easiest KnoppMyth installation I've ever done. I guess the only other one was a R5A16, which took file tweaks and a lot of time to get it up and running. This was as easy as a (ssshhh!) Microsoft program install. It could not have been any simpler. No tweaks of any kind. It worked out of the box (disc) with no problems of any kind. Thanks - your hard work saved me a lot of hard work. |
