Ok just installed R5v27 and everything is going well, what i am confused about is before I was able to just type my host name into the location in a browser on the network and i would instantly be whisked off to my trusty mythweb. Now when I type the host name i get nothing, just ends up in a site not found. Before i had a static IP setup and i have not put that back into place yet, any possiblity that this could be the cause or what would be causing this. I can get to mythweb if i just use the ip address but it was much nicer to just use the host name.

you need some form for DNS to convert the name to an IP address. I have a dyndns entry setup to point to my router WAN IP. the router forwards reasonable requests to the myth box.

I assume you are not running a DNS server on you lan.

Another approach is to add an entry into the host file on the machine that you are using IE and entering the hostname. add a line that maps the IP to the name

On my XP machine the file is:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Sounds to me like you may have a Samba issue. Is Samba running? If so check your smb.conf file to see what name you are broadcasting. That is the name the network will resolve to. My smb.conf:

[global]
load printers = yes
guest account = nobody
name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n .
socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=8192 SO_RCVBUF=8192
preserve case = yes
obey pam restrictions = yes
encrypt passwords = true
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
dns proxy = no
printing = bsd
server string = Mythtv2
invalid users = root
unix password sync = false
workgroup = MD01
syslog only = no
os level = 20
printcap name = /etc/printcap
syslog = 0;
security = user
panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d
short preserve case = yes
max log size = 1000

This frontend box resolves to myhttv2. (http://mythtv2)
