OK I just bought myself a new 52" Sharp LCD HDTV. I am going to upgrade to the latest version of KnoppMyth this weekend. I have several questions.

1. Is there any major differences between the setup of Knoppmyth on Hd and Knoppmyth on SD, modelines, x changes?

2. I am hooking up through HDMI, is there any xorg changes I need to make?

I tried looking on the wiki, however information seems scattered and broken.

What worked for me was:

Backup the computer. (OK I skipped that step... and paid dearly for it)
    Shut down the computer.
Hook up to the TV via HDMI
    Boot from the CD
Select "TV" as the display device

This got me a very nice 600p display and everything was perfect. nharris then showed me a simple change to xorg.conf, in the Screen section

SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1366x768"
EndSubSection

I now have a little bit of overscan, but in return get 720p resolution. If you have a different native resolution, use that instead of the numbers I posted. Good luck and enjoy the new TV!

FWIW, I installed mine fresh. I didnt bother with the old machine's data. I figured I'd be happier with everything clean.

My board has NVIDIA video onboard with DVI out. With a DVI to HDMI cable, all I needed to do was install the NVIDIA driver, and my screen was autodetected for 720p.

Thanks, for the replies. I am going to get started in just a few minutes. I will post back here if I have issues or success.

I'm about to make the same jump, and everybody I've talked to
says to run drive the TV at its panel resolution. I assume
that for a 52" model that's 1920x1080. To make sure the TV
isn't doing anything funny (scaling/overscan), enable "Dot by
Dot" mode on the input.

Forgot to reply back, everything went great. I set the resolution for 1024x768 though I am looking to bump that to 1920x1020. I didn't see modelines for that resolution so I assume I must figure them out. Either way this is WAY better than SD.

Read my prior reply and try that BEFORE trying to create modelines. I've done both, and its best to avoid modelines if you can.

On the mythtv wiki, I found out that all I had to do was add

Code:
Modes      "1920x1080_60" "1280x720_60" "720x480_60"

to the Screen Subsection of xorg.conf. It looks to me, as long as I have a Nvidia card, that this should work.

I tried it and it does work. Not sure if I need to do anything else, but I now have 1920x1080 with very little fuss.
