Post subject: | Trying to get IR Blaster to work with AT&T U-Verse |
Hi All, I'm trying to get my IR blaster to work with AT&T u-verse. Model #s etc below. I couldn't find a config file anywhere for this STB so I decided to build my own (also included below). When I do an irsend, something gets sent from the blaster as if I point it to my IR receiver the receiver lights up. So I know it is sending something. Unfortunately that 'something' seems to have no effect on my STB. I have tried holding the blaster at various distances from (what I believe is) the IR receiver on the STB and even other locations in fronts of the STB - no luck. BTW irrecord couldn't seem to record it in 'normal' mode, I had to use '-f' to record in 'raw' mode. Any ideas? Maybe ideas of more dedicated IR forums out there? TIA, Paul STB: Motorolla VIP 1200 Blaster: Serial port yoke from www.irblaster.info irrecord o/p from VIP 1200 remote: # Please make this file available to others # by sending it to You are trying to record with a homebrew serial receiver right? Are you run folding@home? I found that I had issues using irrecord with folding@home running. Try stopping folding@home and and using irrecord normally. |

I have it and the MCE remote working fine so no (obvious) problems with that h/w. Greg Frost wrote: Are you run folding@home? I found that I had issues using irrecord with folding@home running. Nope, not running that, Thanks for the quick reply... |

Now I noticed that I get different codes with every irrecord session - not giving me the 'warm & fuzzies'... No wonder it's not working... I did try this in a dark room too BTW, plus there are no fluorescent lights around here anyway. Below are excerpts from my latest two irrecord attempts... I tried posting this q on the lirc mailing list via Nabble but apparently as I am not a member I need the msg to be approved and that hasn't happened (yet). Any suggestions on where else I might ask this q? By now it's safe to say that no one has any answers I guess. Still, someone may find this info useful. Here are my latest findings: The plot thickens.... There is no branding or model #s on this remote other than "AT&T". So I pulled the batteries out and found this model #: RC1534801 A google on that generated almost no hits at all but here was one: http://www.remotecontrol.philips.com/li ... _vista.pdf Note that the model # above is in white text on a white background in that PDF, mad. Anyway, this is an MCE remote! My AT&T one doesn't look like the one in the picture as it doesn't look anything like an MCE remote (no "My TV" etc buttons). but still.. My remote DOES look like the wireframe remote in the second page of that PDF though, yup, their wire frame doesn't match their photo! The bizarreness continues... So after researching "Philips RC153" a bit all I find are references to the standard MCE USB stuff for lirc. So I tried that conf file and blasted out those codes to no avail... Note that I also have a real MCE remote so I stood in front of the STB and pushed every button, no effect.. So I think it is safe to say that it is not an MCE remote.. Moving on.... I did find some interesting links in the uverse discussion forums, namely http://www.uverseusers.com/component/op ... 4/#msg4644 and http://www.uverseusers.com/component/op ... .msg25137/ which detail how to teach your Tivo these remote codes. Note what he says: Quote: 18. On the IR Learning Screen, Make sure the U-verse remote is set on "AT&T" and hold the remote away from the IR reciever for Media Center. Hold down the number, raise the remote to the receiver until it says "Release button to continue" then move it away from the IR receiver. Keep the button held down. 19. Do this a minimum of two times until it is ready for the next button and repeat step 17. If it takes more than 4 times (one entry try and one confirm try), then make sure the remote is not in the line of site on the receiver until the button is held down for a second and that when held up to the receiver, it is no more than three inches from it. Aparently it sends some type of junk before the actual code is sent (Universal remote thing?). 20. On the Set-top Box Codes Learned Successfully Screen, click on "Next". Interesting, so I try that trick with irrecord an immediately seem to be making progress when I no longer get the 'Something went wrong' msg and am able to record codes in non-raw mode. However again these codes differ each time I do it and sometimes it still forces me to raw mode. Regardless, none of them had any effect on the STB,... In the second URL read: Quote: I can verify that I got my WinTV PVR150 IR Blaster to work with the VIP1200. Using the most recent IR Blaster software on the Hauppauge (sic?) website I was able to control the VIP using the AT&T 0130 codes.
Is there a way one can 'steal' or convert the Hauppauge codes to lirc format or something similar? What about the "AT&T 0130 codes", does this help any? Thanks... |

BTW, I am so desperate I am willing to mail & pre-pay return mail to anyone who is willing to try and crack this remote... But I guess it's hard to do w/o the STB... |

If you are that desperate, why dont you build yourself a serial ir receiver? They tend to work with anything because of their simplicity. You may be running into problems because the pvr150 receiver may assume certain things about the IR protocol that do not hold for your particular remote. |

I was wondering about that ok, but I had read in many other forums of folks with Tivos etc having lots of problems learning this remote so I figured it was more than just the receiver. Ok, I will give it a shot. Might take me some time to get around to it but I'll be sure to post back any results if/when I try it. |

The Hauppauge dongle is only supposed to work with the "RC5" encoding system. I have a home-brew serial and u-verse. I will record the codes and post them here if you are still interested. |

But I use an MCE remote with it which is RC6, right? Also, I ordered a serial receiver (from irblaster.info) per Greg's advice, I should get it today. I will try and record myself this w/e. If I get nowhere I will definitely take you up on your offer, thanks! |

I received my serial receiver and after running irrecord 50 times or so I give up. I will save on the gory details, but suffice it to say one time it did seem to work and the 'ok' button below works when I blast it, however I was only doing a couple of buttons at a time and have never had it work again so i don't have the full remote. If would be MOST grateful if you could try and record this remote and post what you get here. Note also that I tried to use the generic RC-6.conf file from sourceforge as a template but that didn't work either. Thanks a lot, Paul Here's the one brief glimpse I got of a working ok button Quote: # Please make this file available to others

Well, I did not have any better luck than you did. When I tried recording the codes, irrecord told me, "Something went wrong." I tried several times, but the result was the same each time. One thing I noticed however, is that while determining the header, sometimes the button press would not get picked up up until I released the button and pressed it again. That never happened when working with other remotes. Another place you may want to look for more information on remotes is hifi-remote.com. If you have an old Palm organizer, you can capture the codes with it, then upload those into the computer. I am not sure as to weather or not those codes can be converted to lirc though. I will continue to play with it when I have time, and it is not being used by my wife! |

Oh i gave up on that a long time ago, this nut can only be cracked in 'raw' mode so stick a "-f" onto that "irrecord" cmd line... derek1234 wrote: One thing I noticed however, is that while determining the header, sometimes the button press would not get picked up up until I released the button and pressed it again. That never happened when working with other remotes. I find it extremely erratic. Sometimes I'll press & hold a button and dots go flying across the screen. Then I'll press & hold the next button and nothing happens... ? Also note the Tivo trick I linked in above: There the guy was only able to learn the remote by pointing the remote away from the ir receiver & holding down a button, keeping the button held down he then moved it within range of the receiver for a second, and then moved it away again and then let go of the button. This was to avoid picking up any 'header' type info sent by the remote which was confusing Tivo. Maybe that trick might help? This remote seems to be giving trouble for everyone who tries to learn it on any system, the net is full of such postings... derek1234 wrote: Another place you may want to look for more information on remotes is hifi-remote.com. Ok, did a quick check there and found something, namely the equivalent of a conf file available here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4043 I'll even paste the file below in case anyone has any idea on howto possibly reverse engineer it, I certainly can't. Also, here is a discussion thread on it: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewt ... 02ee3af621 What's all this talk of "Nokia32"? Thanks for your help Derek. I too was researching and found this thread at remotecentral.com http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mb ... words=8237 It deals with the hex values and I don't much about the way or the numbers you need for the IRBlaster file in Myth. Hope this helps. |
