Hi, sometimes when I put a dvd in my dvd-r/rw drive and either use root command line to copy some data files from another copy to my Knoppmyth harddrive or burn something with mythArchive, the drive will not open when I press the eject button on the drive or go to Optical Disks > Eject Media with an error "unable to eject media". It will then only eject after restarting the computer.

Is this a problem with MythTV Knoppmyth or a hardware problem (I'm using a new Sony drive which worked fine without this problem on R5F1 - now using R5F27)? Please could someone help, cheers!

If you are using the command line, are you perhaps doing a cd command into the mounted DVD? That is enough to prevent the drive being ejected, because the shell is still using the DVD.

If you are not using the cd command, when the drive is "stuck" next time, try these things:

1) In the command line, check the kernel messages using the "dmesg" command. Any errors there relating to your drive?

2) Also in the command line, try the "eject" command. What does it report?

3) Have a look at the Frontend's output (either ~mythtv/.xsession-errors or /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log). Anything in there?
