OK so I have a few questions regarding my setup and from reading a lot of other posts I can tell that posting the errors in dmesg would probably help a lot. So I know how to write dmesg to a file like this:

dmesg > boot.messages

But now how do I get boot.messages onto this forum? I can think of several possibilities but I am wondering if there is a really easy way I am not thinking of.

1) Copy boot.messages to a floppy, floppy to machine with browser etc.
2) Use the Web option in mythtv to navigate to this site then try to cut and paste.
3) Somehow e-mail the file to myself.
4) Copy the file from my KnoppMyth box to a machine with browser etc.

What do most people do? I am relatively new to Linux/Unix so some of the basic things are pretty hard to figure out especially when it comes to figuring out the best way to do something.

Thanks,

Jonathan Smith

From a computer with a web browser, I would use SSH to access the KnoppMyth box and copy and paste the output. If your web browser machine is a Windoh's machine see: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=RemoteAccessfromWindows
for info on how to accomplish this.

Do you use ssh on that box? If so you can copy/paste parts pretty easily. If you wanna dump the whole file, simply get samba up and running, then copy your text file of interest to your /home/myth and get it that way (from windows simply do a \\mythv\myth and you'll connect. You can replace the word mythtv with the hostname of your myth box or you can also use its IP addy like this \\192.168.1.105\myth

Hi,

For those that only have one computer (or like myself, lazy), I install firefox, add a key so an alt w brings up the browser at any time. It does take away from the purity of KM as a DVR only however I like to have all my tools in one box :)
