Post subject: | Frontend "install" root password? |
Hello All, I'm new to KnoppMyth, but am fairly familiar with linux administration. I'm using R5F27 and am using the "Frontend" option on a laptop. KnoppMyth runs beautifully and MythTV comes up and successfully connects to my backend server. However, in order to view the videos, I believe I need to nfs mount the directory with the videos onto my frontend box. When I bring up a terminal, the bash shell is not running as root. In order to perform the mount, I attempt to "su root", but I don't know what the root password is. Two questions: Is mounting the drive with the videos the right solution? What is the default root password for the KnoppMyth Frontend only installation? Thank you for your help. |

The root password is whatever you entered as the Administrator password when you did the installation. ![]() |

And to answer the other question, yes you need videos mounted on the remote front end. It's also easier if the mythtv user has the same UID on the front and back ends. (This shouldn't be a problem if you're installing the front end from the KM disk) The other little catch is you'll want (but not mandatory) to have the cover art directory mounted too. It's been so long I forget where the default location is, but I have my cover art directory set to /myth/video_coverart otherwise you'll get blank tiles on every video. |

![]() Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I may be misunderstanding something, but, since I am using the KnoppMyth install, and choosing the "Frontend only" option, there is no installation taking place. Everything (I believe) is loaded into a ramdisk. Since I'm not installing, I never had the opportunity to create a root password. Also, just for clarification, the backend server is not a KnoppMyth install, it's a gentoo distro with the latest MythTV portage package installed. |
