Post subject:  Odd Playback Issue - Speed Up - Slow Down

I'm using the latest Knoppmyth..

I have 2 gigs of ram and an AMD X2 5000+

When I play back certain recordings what will happen is the video will go into slow motion for a couple of seconds.. and then, sometimes, it'll go into fast motion. The sound stays consistent the entire time, however.. and, somehow, once the video stops playing back slowly, or quickly, the sound is still in sync.

I couldn't find anyone else reporting this. Any ideas?! I'm stumped.

Is it slowing down/speeding up randomly during playback, or only when you start a recording?

A long time ago, I noticed that my OSD would cause what you're describing -- but over the course of a Knoppmyth upgrade, new video drivers and a new theme, I don't have that problem any more.

Thanks for the reply..

I think I may have found the problem.. BOB X2 algorithm.. When I change this to something like Linear Blend the problem dissapears... Hmm.

I need to test this more to be sure.. but this is odd.

I'm still having this problem and I've been unable to find any type of solution.

When I use BOB 2X deinterlacer I get the issues described above..

I do not get these issues with any other deinterlacer.. but, obviously, the video quality greatly suffers when I use those other deinterlacers.

I am component out to an HD television... This problem doesn't seem to happen on HD channels. But I suspect that's because they are all progressive and don't require the need of a deinterlacer.

Any ideas?

ACtually.. After playing more, I think I've got a theory.

Video scan is currently on Autodetect using BOB 2X.

But the autodetect functionality of videoscan seems to be very poor.

Because when I'm watching something like hockey on my television it somehow gets confused when there is a lot of scrolling motion.. and it switches between different videoscan modes. So, what I perceived as slow motion was maybe it just switching videoscan modes..

Hmmm.. Things are fixed dramatically when I change it from autodetect to Normal (interlaced) videoscan mode.

But I have to do this every time I start to watch TV.. and I'm not 100% sure it compeltely fixes everything.

Again.. any input is appreciated.

Does this happen for any recording, or just HD ones? You might be having a problem with XvMC.

No. It's primarily happening with SD recordings, actually. This doesn't seem to be an issue on the HD channels.

XVMC, hmmm?

Changing from Bob 2X to something else definitely helps.. but the picture looks terrible when I do this (not interlacing correctly)
