hi there.. id like to play some old arcade game roms through mythgame.

trouble is i have no idea how. i looked at the knoppwiki.. there are a few posts, but http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=MythGame seemed the most promising. trouble is most of the links are broken.. and it's not fully descriptive for the git i am.

the mythtv wiki also assumed some prior knowledge... which i dont have.

is there a walk through?

can i play linux games like tux racer through mythgame? .. or is it just emulation. no worries if i cant.. i can just create another menu called GAMES and add a button that will launch the game over the top of mythtv.

Hi Steve,

Yes you can play any game that works under linux with the MythGame plugin.

Basically all you need to do for PC games is install the game (ie. apt-get install frozen-bubble or whatever) then setup a player for it under the Setup -> Setup -> blah blah -> Game Players.

For your old arcade games you use the emulator xmame or zsnes. These come mostly preconfigured. Settings folder is /etc/xmame and zsnes has a GUI for config (just run zsnes on the command line).

I don't know of any walkthroughs, I just put pieces together from searching, but if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Good luck,
Kirk.

Hi

I usually install gnome-games, they are simple but my kids like them of course frozen-bubbles is high on their preferrence list :) There are quite a few and if you use synaptic, you can view the list that are in the package.

You can start them from an xterm window or put them in the menus. I would assume you could add them to the games menu but I have never tried.. makes too much sense and not enough work.

Mike
