I'm running R5F1 w/ SD update (.20-fixes as of 2 mos ago or so) and having a major problem with sound (analog stereo sound out).

I'm using an asus p1-ah2 mini pc that uses the nvidia hda sound device. On system startup, the volume controls in myth, set to either master or PCM control, do nothing to change output volume. If I enter alsamixer or the OSS mixer (forget the command right now) from the command line in an ssh session, I can control the sound (when using the corresponding sound device in linux). On top of this, after I've used the mixer, myth's volume controls work until I exit out of the recording/video/etc.

Any ideas on this?

Maybe udevd is playing games with your head.

/dev/mixer seems to always be there.

Question: When I select "ALSA:default" as my device and "default" as my mixer (which is my current config), what device does alsa point that "default" to?" Or is it not that simple?

ALSA:Default.. don't know

you could try changing the setting to /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer -- if you're doing passthru, see what options its offering you.

I don't do passthrough, just analog stereo out to TV speakers, but like ALSA because I get less glitches / sync issues, it seems.
