I had things working (sort of) on my R5F27 install, but having problems like everyone else with OSD-induced stutter on HD. I'd noticed last week that my Dvico MCE remote had stopped working, so tonight I thought I'd try to re-copy my LIRCD.conf and LIRCRC files with the proper configurations back onto the machine.

Well, the machine has started playing/pausing/playing badly again. The remote still isn't working. Remoting into the machine and running top shows me that the LIRC process is taking between 35-49% of the CPU cycles.

What would cause this, and what amount of CPU cycles should it be taking? I'm on an Athlon XP 2000+ with 512MB RAM.

It should be using very little of cpu.. most of the time it will be idle using none.

here is mine..
USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
root 3246 0.0 0.1 2872 680 ? Ss 11:45 0:00 /usr/sbin/lircd --driver=default --device=/dev/lirc0

maybe you can see what it is doing with "lsof -p <pid>" and "strace -p <pid>"

you may need to do a "apt-get install strace"

If it is spinning on something you should see it with strace.

The dvico remotes had a disconnect problem. for more details see this thread:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10833

I though the relevant updates to fix the dvico repeats and the disconnedt problems were included in F27, but perhaps they were not.

mac--

I'll get strace and see what it tells me.

Greg--

I remember seeing those disconnect messages when browsing through the various logs last night, but didn't connect the two. It will be a pain to recompile, et cetera as I'm new at that, but if it fixes the problem I can try it. Thanks for the pointer.

It appears that those updates/changes to Lirc didn't make it into the last release. I downloaded the latest Lirc, compiled and installed and the remote works again with little to no CPU loading. It wasn't as scary a process as I'd thought... :D

Greg/Mac, thanks for your help!

To test if you have really fixed it, yank out the usb dongle and then plug it back in again. If your remote still works, then you have the fix.

You probably wont have the DVICO key repeat fix however because that is only in the CVS version of LIRC at this stage.
