| Post subject: | Recompiling IVTV on R5F27? |
First of all I'd like to thank Cecil, tjc and everyone else who worked or is working on Knoppmyth. It is so easy to install and getting easier all the time. I am running R5F27. I have to compile the kernel and install the modules to get a program to compile and run. Each time I do I have to re-compile and re-install IVTV. In the past, I have done it with the following commands. Code: cd /usr/src
wget http://dl.ivtvdriver.org/ivtv/stable/ivtv-0.10.1.tar.gz tar zxvf ivtv-0.10.1.tar.gz cd cd /usr/src/ivtv-0.10.1 make make install reboot I read tjc's upgrade hints regarding the IVTV drivers, and now I am not sure how to compile and install the drivers. I looked at the wiki, but there is nothing that pertains to R5F27. I can't even find version 1.10. The latest version under the stable directory is 1.0.3. Is the solution as simple as substituting 1.0.3 for 0.10.1 in the code above, or will that bork my system? I really don't want to have to re-install as I have everything else set up the way I like it. |

As the hint note, R5F27 is using a version of ivtv from the 1.1.x development branch. You can't substitute 1.0.x (which is not compatible with the KM 2.6.18 kernel) or 0.10.x (which is not compatible with the header files and interface - your recordings end up sounding like "Alvin & the Chipmunks"). Why exactly do you think you need to recompile the driver? |

Well my pvr150 appeared in the mythtv-setup / capture card setup screen before I did: Code: cd /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.18-chw-13
make make modules cp -av /lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13 /lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13.backup make modules_install Now when I try to add an MPEG-2 encoder card, the probed info states, "Failed to open card." In the past all I did was follow the steps above and the card worked. Is there another way top get it working? I looked at the wiki, but nothing seemed to apply. I don't even see any errors about it in dmesg. |

I'm confused by what is it you are doing... What is the issue w/ your PVR 150 and F27? That is, from a clean install or upgrade. |

Sorry, I should not have been so vague in my first post. From an upgrade, the PVR 150 works fine, no setup required. Then I install sasc-ng, which must be compiled from source against the kernel source. If you are not familliar with sasc-ng, it aids in receiving satellite signals. In order for sasc-ng to compile without errors, I have to compile the kernel source, then compile the modules, then install the modules. When I install the modules, it seems to break something else and the PVR 150 card no longer works. I can post the script I use to download and compile the kernel and sasc-ng if you like, but I am pretty sure that installing the modules is what breaks the PVR 150. With past versions I just executed the commands above to re-compile and re-install IVTV, and the PVR 150 worked again. With R5F27 I am not sure how to go about that, so I thought I would ask for some expert assistance before I started mucking with an otherwise functional system. |

I'm not familiar w/ sasc-ng. If it's use is legally questionable, I don't want it discussed on this forum. The commands you stated, will not recompile ivtv. Up until 2.6.22, the ivtv modules were not in the kernel. If you want to recompile ivtv, then you need to get the "tip" from linuxtv.org. |

I had no intentions of discussing sasc-ng. I figured that if discussing how to watch comercial DVD's was off limits, sasc-ng would be as well. That is part of the reason I was vague in my original post. Anyhow, I browsed over to linuxtv.org. I found linuxtv-dvb-1.1.1.tar.bz2. Can I just download, compile, and install it? I looked for a "tip" but everything there seemed to revolve around the API and developing drivers. |
