I'm looking to overhaul the site. I'd like to use a CMS and integrate the forum with said CMS for easy use/management. Any web gurus out there willing to help/advice the project?

Thanks,

Cecil

What do you need?

I've been looking for a way I can contribute.

I'm not certain how to break it down any further than what I've have above. I'd like a site that looks snappy, is easy to manage and upgrade.

And runs on www.KnoppMyth.net also (so it does not overload your home 'pipe'.

Have you thought about what content you want in addition to the forum? I'm kinda interested in CMS platforms, too. For my use I've been investigating Plone. (But I admit I'm more comfortable with Python than Perl myself, so I'm biased.)

There are lots of other platforms, tho. It kinda depends on what you're looking for. Maybe you'd like to brainstorm ideas of what the site should have and it will help guide which platform to choose.

I've had some good results with plone.

A good site to test the different CMSes is www.opensourcecms.com.

There's also a phpbbhack to make phpBB into a CMS as well, though I've never used it, so I have no clue how easy (or not) it is to setup or use, or what features it has.

I was excited by that "opensourcecms" link until I visited it. They only include a tiny subset of CMS offerings. From their site:
Quote:
There are a number of reasons why many CMSs aren't featured at opensourceCMS.com, the main reason being we only deal with php/mysql systems. If it's not php/mysql it won't be featured here.

So only PHP/mysql engines are worthy of being included on their site. How about "onlyphpmysqlopensourcecms" instead?

I actually never noticed that, I didn't have time to look into it much last night, but since cecil was running phpBB, I knew he had support to run php apps, not necessarily anything else, so I had been concentrating on those anyhow.

Speaking of, I just stumbled across this, never used it, don't have time at the moment to play around with it, but, maybe someone has.

I use XOOPS for a few CMS sites I have setup: http://www.xoops.org

They have a lot of themes, modules and good support.

It's worth looking at.
