Post subject: | Tuners 7, 8, 9 -> Tuners 1, 2, 3? |
Due to a recent problem where my backend was no longer communicating, I had to run mythtv-setup and drop/recreate my three tuner cards. I had done this once before on this install, and after doing this, I noted that MythWeb was reporting that my tuners were numbered Tuner 4, Tuner 5 and Tuner 6. But since everything seemed to be working, I didn't think it was a problem. Now, after the most recent deletion/re-adding of tuner cards, it now says I have Tuner 7, Tuner 8 and Tuner 9. a) Am I doing something wrong that's resulting in this, and if so, what might I be doing wrong? b) Is this a problem or is it nothing to worry about? c) Is there any way to delete the other six "ghost" tuners it thinks I have so that it's back to Tuner 1, 2 and 3? Thanks as always. |

IIRC this happens when you delete the cards one at a time. The delete all option clears the database or something. |

As I remember Delete all is part of the problem. I just glanced quickly at my fix, but 2nd and 3rd posts here detail what I saw and how I fixed it. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... highlight= hth and as always ymmv |

Thanks, looks like your secret trick is deleting the tuners then shutting down, then restarting and adding them back in. I'll print out your tips and try them; I do think I used "delete all" this most recent time but can't be sure. |

Using "Delete All Tuner Cards" was indeed the answer. Thanks, TooManySecrets, and thanks for reminding me to search the MythTV archive as well... |

Well, interestingly, "delete all" isn't necessarily the answer. I had to turn off my backend for a number of hours (finally got around to cleaning up my cable rat's nest). When I started it up again, the backend wasn't working, so I went into mythtv-setup and deleted all cards, and then set them back up again. Backend started up just fine after that... but I'm back to Tuner 4, 5, and 6, and this time I'm _sure_ I used "delete all." So who knows. |

This happened to me a while back also. What I did: Shut down backend Enter setup and delete all cards Leave setup and start backend Shut down backend and go back into setup Setup all cards again Leave setup, start backend and enjoy! |

I have noticed they may occasionally act kind of finicky. You mentioned your backend was shutdown for a while. Was that the MBE or an SBE? I have noticed this, if the MBE is down for just a short recycle to load something, then the SBE's will pickup and connect fine especially after I restart just their backends. Alt + 3 on the keyboard. Sometimes it won't and I need to restart the SBE's I think it is related to a retry connection so many times and the time cycle associated with that. However, it seems if the MBE is down for more than just a few minutes, say a fan/case cleaning. Then I definitely need to power cycle the SBE's as well. Otherwise they will connect eventually but I see other issues. Back to the question above. if you ran mythtv-setup on any of the machines and did captrue cards again, it seems when I did that I had to recreate the whole group per the steps I outlined initially. So trying to determine which machine was off for a while and also relate some experience I have seen. FWIW, I added a good long lasting UPS on my MBE, it now outlasts the SBE's as far as riding out power outages. Stabilty has improved dramatically and it has alleviated essentially all the issues I saw with SBE's not connecting to the MBE. I haven't got the wakeup scripts working on my SBE's but I have had one down for two weeks(saving power, adjusting components, etc) and then when it restarted it connected and worked just fine. I never really saw power outages, except for ones that took the whole house down and yet, having that UPS in there. Momma hasn't missed a recording for unexplained reasons in 5 months. Attributed to both R5F27 and the UPS. HTH, and as always YMMV |
