The R6 dev team has started work on R6. If you have a feature request, now is the time to submit it! Please use the following format:

I'd like to see the following feature/program added to R6:
I think the addition of feature/program would be beneficial because:
Feature/program X can be found at(please provide a link):
Program X has the following dependencies and can be found(please provide a link):

Any request not in the above format will be piped to /dev/null.

I would like to see Myth Recording Extender integrated into knoppmyth.
I think the addition of this is feature would be great for everyone that likes to tape sports. It seems that they always run late..)

Here is where I found found out about this

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/My ... g_extender

Here are the dependencies they can be found at the page above - PHP5, PEAR DB, Mythtv .19+, SSH Client/Server

Adding a 'slingbox', wireless streaming, type feature might prove to be a 'killer app'. The ability to stream recordings or even live (sports) events to a mobile phone could appeal to many (not to mention there's a certain 'wow factor').

Here is the myth wiki for Darwin implementation. With the already included myth2ipod and maybe a .3gp script and the mythweb page, it could really be done up nicely.

Cecil,

Here is my first quick thoughts:
1.ACPI S3 support (effectively means Kernel 2.6.23 or better)
2.LVM for /myth volume by default. (even if ppl at beginning are using 1 HDD, if in future they will want expand storage, with LVM it will be much easier)
3.SAMBA turned ON with configured RW shares for /myth/music and /myth/video
4.Inclusion of nice script for import of m3u playlists to mythmusic
(http://thebronze.org/m3u2mythmusic/)
5.Change default keybindings for some JumpPoints like i.e.:
MainMenu: Alt+H
LiveTV: Alt+T
Recordings: Alt+R
Video: Alt+V
Music: Alt+M
Stream: Alt+S
Web: Alt+W
Info: ALt+I
DVD: Alt+D
EPG: Alt+E
FindInEPG: Alt+F

If something comes to mind later - I will add it in next post.
br

It would be nice if the kernel was past 2.6.22 which has the ability for lm-sensors to read the temperature of the Core 2 Duo processor which is shipped with the Dragon 2.0 from StormLogic.

Plus the changes to rrd so it gets graphed automatically! :)

We've discussed LVM by default. However as MythTV 0.21 will support Storage Volumes, the need for LVM becomes less attractive. While R6 will make it easier to turn on Samba, no daemon that isn't absolutely needed for the system will be turned on by default. Currently, Samba is already configured, all one needs to do it turn it on.

I'd like to see the following feature/program added to R6:
Level Volume

I think the addition of feature/program would be beneficial because:
It would allow people watch live TV without having to reach for the remote and adjust the volume down when a commercial comes on and then have to turn it back up when it's over.

As an LVM user, I'd vote against doing the LVM thing by default. I think LVMs will be history, for this application anyway.

A minor thing nothing important but maybe a file manager for those who really are not 100% familiar with how things are stored on a linux system. Something small like XFE pre-installed.

Hey Cecil/Dev Team,
I really liked the way CDs & DVDs were handled back in version R5D1. Where you would put a disk in and when you scanned for videos it would automatically add them to the video list. Would it be possible to put this feature back into R6?
Thanks!

If not, that's cool, I'm sure I'll still love R6 ;-)

Hi,

At one time someone was working towards mythradio.
http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv- ... 29117.html
http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv- ... 36226.html
also various other places refer to the mythradio but somewhere it eludes me.

There is also a mythtv extension out there called mythRadio, which has a good radio tuner interface. I'll try to get the code and integrate it.

I think this is one of the original links
http://mythextra.napsi.net/mythFM.html

Is this potentially an option for R6?
Thanks
Mike

I'll second the request for MythRadio (actually MythFM). I looked at this project a few months ago and it looks doable, however the patch file needs a severe upgrade. I did contact the author and he said that he'd look into it, but I'm guessing he doesn't have very much copious free time anymore to actually DO anything. The fixes to the patch file look like it could be completed by the time R6 hits the streets.

It would be nice if GATOS would be included too, but I won't hold my breath on this one. I can see what kind of coding patch I can come up with, but it could take awhile.

I'll also request that iceweasel be included in the default install since this is one of the first things I install after a reload. iceweasel is a package easily available via apt. ( http://www.geticeweasel.org/ or http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/ )

List of dependencies:
Depends: fontconfig, psmisc, debianutils (>= 1.16), libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.12.2), libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6), libcairo2 (>= 1.2.4), libfontconfig1 (>= 2.4.0), libfreetype6 (>= 2.2), libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1-12), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.12.0), libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.8.0), libjpeg62, libmyspell3c2, libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.14.8), libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.13-4), libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1-12), libx11-6, libxft2 (>> 2.1.1), libxinerama1, libxp6, libxrender1, libxt6, zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.1)

I'd also like to suggest that this patch be added to MythTV and here are a couple of scripts that take advantage of that patch:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
# Toggle Recording Playback to be from Newest to Oldest or Oldest to Newest
CurHost="mythtv"
PlayBoxOrdering="$(/usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "SELECT data FROM settings WHERE hostname='$CurHost' AND value='PlayBoxOrdering' ORDER BY value;")"

#echo ""$PlayBoxOrdering""
if [ "X$PlayBoxOrdering" = "X0" ]; then
  /usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='1' WHERE value='PlayBoxOrdering' AND data='0' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"
  /usr/bin/mythbackend --clearcache
  echo
  echo "Showing NEWEST first."
elif [ "X$PlayBoxOrdering" = "X1" ]; then
  /usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='0' WHERE value='PlayBoxOrdering' AND data='1' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"
  /usr/bin/mythbackend --clearcache
  echo
  echo "Showing OLDEST first."
fi

#mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='0' WHERE value='PlayBoxOrdering' AND data='1' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"
Code:
#!/bin/bash
# Toggle Output to PVR350 MPEG TV Out for built-in decoder usage.
CurHost="mythtv"
CurSetting="PVR350OutputEnable"
#PVR350InternalAudioOnly        1
#PVR350OutputEnable             1

PVR350OutputEnable="$(/usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "SELECT data FROM settings WHERE hostname='$CurHost' AND value='$CurSetting' ORDER BY value;")"

#echo ""PVR350OutputEnable""
if [ "X$PVR350OutputEnable" = "X0" ]; then
  /usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='1' WHERE value='$CurSetting' AND data='0' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"
  /usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='1' WHERE value='PVR350InternalAudioOnly' AND data='0' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"
  /usr/bin/mythbackend --clearcache
  echo
  echo "PVR350 TV Output Enabled."
elif [ "X$PVR350OutputEnable" = "X1" ]; then
  /usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='0' WHERE value='$CurSetting' AND data='1' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"
  /usr/bin/mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='0' WHERE value='PVR350InternalAudioOnly' AND data='1' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"
  /usr/bin/mythbackend --clearcache
  echo
  echo "PVR350 TV Output Disabled."
fi

#mysql -s --skip-column-names -u mythtv -pmythtv -D mythconverg -e "UPDATE settings SET data='0' WHERE value='$CurSetting' AND data='1' AND hostname='$CurHost' LIMIT 1;"

I just saw on the mythtv-users mailing list that someone wrote a little script to add the status to the MOTD, which would be very helpful for those of us who are constantly SSHing into our machines to make tweaks, which could require restarts.
