Hi,
I have a pretty new system with intel chipset 965GM and ICH8M. It is also running a SATA drive. When I try to boot the R5F27 CD with "intelfix", it fails but the interesting thing is it detects the hard drive as "hde". I f I do a regular boot (without intelfix), It detects the drive as "sda" (As I expected) and installs without a hitch.

What am I missing if I don't use intelfix? How to I get the Intel video driver loaded? (I just edited the xorg.conf file and changed the device to "intel" [it didn't like it])

I tried booting with "tv intelfix" and it seemed to work (detected sda). Does that mean it did not see the "intelfix" option?

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Hi,

You might edit the xorg.conf and try the "i810" for the driver. Only going from memory but I think I used that on a Dell.

OK. I booted the install disk with "tv intelfix". It installs fine on my SATA drive being detected as "/dev/sda1". I edited the lilo.conf file to get rid of the "800x600" resolution. While doing so I noticed that "intelfix" was added to the "append" option, so it would appear that the installer is doing what it should do.

It starts up X with the generic "vesa" driver which at least gets me going.

NOW... the i810 video driver does not work. The "intel" driver is not installed.
I downloaded the "intel" driver from the Intel website. It won't compile because it wants the Xorg Server source tree for version 1.3.

Is this going to break the Xserver included in R5F27? According to Xorg.0.log, Knoppmyth is running version 7.something.

Is there an Intel driver .deb somewhere I can install? I found some stuff for Ubuntu with Google but not for Knoppmyth (also debian based)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS. I'm running the Intel 965GM chip-set with the GMA3100 video graphics core. The driver I downloaded from Intel is what they say I need.
