Knoppmyth R5F27 Radeon 9600 SE Video Card Display is fine when hooked up to a computer monitor via the VGA connection. Menu display and TV watching both good. However when I shut down the system and reconnect it to my TV via an S Video connection the display, both menu and TV, are distorted beyond recognition. Any help is appreciated. |

You're probably running at a resolution or scan-rate that your TV-encoder chip can't handle. Check the docs for your video card to see what resolutions are acceptable for the S-Video output. 640x480 at 60Hz usually works the best. NB: I've had inconsistent luck getting TV-out to work on ATI stuff. It works on my X300 chipset but I could never get it to work on my 7100 chipset. OTOH, NVidia TV-out has always "just worked". |

While I look on this forum, is there a quick answer on how to change the output resolution like you suggested? |

change the output resolution like you suggested? # aticonfig --resolution=0,640x480 # aticonfig --vrefresh=0,59-61 You'll have to restart the X server. Or you can edit /etc/X11/xorg.confg. The resolution is set by the "Modes" keyword in the "Display" subsection of the "Screen" section. The veritical refresh range you want to allow is set by the VertRefresh keyword in the Monitor section. There's probably a GUI method also using something like xvidtune, but I find the command-line to be a lot easier. |
