In previous versions of Myth I could put a cd/dvd containing .avi files into my Mythbox and after scanning for them with the Video Manager, I could play them back directly off the cd/dvd. Now, this option/facility seems to be missing.
Any ideas how to solve this? I've spent a fair old while trying to access my .avi backups I have on disks. The only way I have found to do this is mounting the CD/DVD from the command line and copying the files into the /myth/video folder. I've been having an problem unmounting the media afterwards, but that's a separate issue.
Regards.

Under the media settings for video, you should have an option to that says "Newly scanned files are browseable by default". Make sure this is checked. Also, what is your default view?

The files appear if I copy them over, but you misunderstand me. Previously on earlier versions - I forget which version I'm afraid, I'd put in a cd with avi's and I could scan scan them from there. This doesn't appear to happen any more but I would like it too.

Not directly relevant to your point, but MythArchive can burn video files to DVD as a Video DVD. That is a most useful facility.

So, if you put in a CD with video files and go to Video Manager to update the database, and then go back to watch videos you don't have the videos from the CD listed there?
What about f you put a DVD in and go to Watch DVD, does that work?

Hi kmkittre - Quote: So, if you put in a CD with video files and go to Video Manager to update the database, and then go back to watch videos you don't have the videos from the CD listed there? This is correct, or at least partially used to be.
But let me attempt to make the situation clearer with a concrete example. Some months ago used bittorrent to d/l the latest series of Scrubs (as we are pitifully behind here and I love Scrubs). I did this on my Windows machine because at the time my Mythbox was not networked. I then burnt the avi's to a dvd rom.
I could at that point place a cd or dvd of avi files into the dvd drive and though going into 'Video Manager' I could scan for new files and the avi's would be picked up. I could then go to 'Watch video' and play the avi files from there directly off the cd/dvd.
This no longer is the case. Now, I can't even scan the disk for content that I've just put in the machine. It spins up but nothing else happens. I was wondering if there was a setting that I could enable to allow this handling of media occur.
As I write this it occurs to me that perhaps the scanning for files happened as I did not have any rips or videos in my /myth/video directory... I'll have to see if I get this behaviour on my test rig.
As for regular DVD's they play fine either straight from the disk itself or when ripped as an iso from the harddrive.
As it happens Bruce_s01, I do have a question regarding MythArchive but I'll ask that in another thread.

Interesting. I don't know why this isn't working for you. It works for me, but I am running an earlier version of Knoppmyth (R5D1).
I would go through all the settings for video through the mythtv menu and see if you can find a checkbox that isn't checked that may be what you're looking for. Also, try changing your video directory view in mythtv. I know I look at mine in the folder view.

As I say, I know it worked in previous versions, but not this one. It probably ran in R5D1, but I can't remember. How long is it since R5F1 was released? Certainly this version for me isn't playing. I've looked through the various setup menus... I'll have another play... Irritating is what it is.

I would like to know if this is working/not working for anyone else in R5F1. I've been meaning to upgrade, but this is an issue for me as well. I have quite a few DVDs of TV shows in .avi format that I would like to still be able to watch without copying the files to the HD...

Works fine. If media monitor is enabled, stick a disk in the drive and MythGallery will load. You can load the AVIs from MythGallery.

Oh, didn't realise that. I'll give that a go. I'm sure you are correct. Thanks

Okay, so I'm having this problem in R5F27. I'm not seeing an option for "media monitor". I am seeing an option for monitor cd/dvd, but when I check this off nothing still happens.
Looking at my /myth/video directory I see a symbolic link called cdrom that points to /mnt/cdrom. I'm assuming that what used to happen is that /dev/cdrom was mounted to /mnt/cdrom, is this correct? Can I set it up this way again?
If I manually mount /dev/cdrom to /mnt/cdrom this works. Should I just add this mount point to my fstab? How was it being done before?

You want that checked on, not off. Change the symlink to /cdrom instead.

Thanks for the tips, cecil.
However, I also had to edit my fstab to mount /dev/cdrom on /cdrom. I followed tjc's tips for upgrading so when I check my /etc/fstab.orig I see that you had this in the fstab... One of the hazards of upgrading I suppose...
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. Oh, and I'm sure you don't hear this enough: Thanks for all your hard work on a very fine program.

Is there any reason this can't work like it used to before? When I put a disc in, nothing happens. If I restart the frontend with the disc in it launches myth gallery with the videos. But now, I can't eject the disc once I'm done...
In R5D1, I could put a disk in, go to Media Library -> Watch Videos -> cdrom and then watch the videos. I had no troubles ejecting the disc when I was done. Is there a technical hurdle preventing me from doing this in R5F27?
