Topic sums it up. The GUI barely has time to load up before going down for a system halt seemly automatically. Is there any way I can interrupt the boot process and stop at a shell to read some logs? |

Did you try to setup wakeup to record? If your idle timeout is too short, that might cause it. If that is what is happening, it is the myth backend that is initiating the shutdown. boot with your install cd switch to a console and mount your root partition and then rename /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend. Then reboot without the cd. |

Thanks for the reply, Greg. Turns out the problem was with the BIOS for some reason. I cleared the CMOS and all is well again. I have no explanation for this! |

I know this post has been resolved, but just incase someone else has the same symptoms, and it is not BIOS related. I had similar symptoms when performing an auto upgrade to R5F27. I had me stumped for ages, but this is what happened. 1) put R5F27 CD in, did the install 2) rebooted 3) on first boot, the configuration gets part way through (folding@home i think) and goes into an automajijcal halt/shutdown. This was repeatable, and i could never get the initial config done in time before shutdown. Turns out that due to my custom start (mythwelcome instead of Knoppmyth-run), at some point in the initial config my ~mythtv/.fluxbox/apps file is reinstated, and mythwelcome is run. My idle time is set to 40secs, and thus the shutdown mid configuration. I fixed it by monitoring the ~mythtv/.fluxbox/apps file during config, and commented out the mythwelcome entry once it was reinstated. Atleast, that what i remember i did. Hope this helps someone.
