I installed rrdtool duing my latest build but it looks like it's using way to much CPU

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
4102 root 28 0 1716 368 304 R 96 0.0 0:28.21 mbmon
3633 mythtv 0 0 461m 306m 121m S 84 30.4 22:35.92 mythfrontend
3446 root 0 0 281m 252m 105m S 16 25.0 4:26.07 Xorg
3291 mythtv 0 0 365m 37m 12m S 3 3.7 1:04.31 mythbackend

Is there a way to turn it on and off?

Thanks

Tim

This usually means that it's getting stuck, often because it's not compatible with your motherboard. The way the RRD scripts run it (probe for and report one value) shouldn't leave an instance running. Kill the process, then try running it form the command line to see what happens.

If it's incompatible you may need to disable the RRD monitoring scripts that use it or customize them. See this thread... http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16546

Well it looks like its getting stuck, it just hangs when run from the command line so it looks like maybe a motherboard issue.

What do I need to do to disable it for now?

As root run rrd_Configure.sh and turn off MBTemp and MBFan monitoring. See the thread I pointed you to for real fixes.

I've noticed a couple times that and rrd script will just run and lock up things. I've tried to 'uninstall' them using the Configure script, so that no rrds are supposed to run, yet they will still run. Notice this last top

Code:

I tried to killall the frontend and the rrd_Swap.pl but the best I got was to zombie the FE. Had to reboot.

How do I kill the rrd once it's running? and how can I keep it from starting? Where's the startup for rrd?

rrd is only run from cron..

Just comment out the rrd line from in your /etc/crontab to keep it from running.
