gday,

Im having trouble with myth archive. When i select it from the menu it loads for about 10 minutes on the same screen then drops out to the penguine screen and stops the backend. I tried again this morning and this time it got to the find files to burn menu but when I clicked it 10 minutes latter after reading the hardrive none stop.... it dropped back to the penguine and stopped the backend.

I also have the same problem with myth music when i go into the music settings to scan for new music.

has anyone else faced this problem?

i have a pentium 4 2.66gig running with a fx5200 and a dvico plus pci card. Im running r5f1

Check your log files - See http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ngLogFiles You probably want to key on the mythbackend.log and .xsession-errors files at first.

Another thing you can try is running mythfrontend from an xterm with the "-v all" option. When the frontend bombs some indication of the problem should be evident in the output on your screen.

Hi,

Not sure about the archive issue however it sounds as if you may have a double link in /myth/music . If you do ls -al /myth/music and then see another music then it will try to repeat forever doing a search. Simply remove the extra link and should be good.

It may be the same for the archive.

Mike

Have you tried all the suggestions in the thread linked to in the R5F27 Hints under Known Change 7.4? (The R5F1 Hints say exactly the same thing.)

Have you configure MythArchive in Setup?
If you haven't , you need to.

It sets the location for the tmp files.

If you omit this step it will do that as well.

Those aren't files, they are directories (specifically, This Directory (the single . ) and it's Parent Directory (..) )

There are no files in the listing you show above, did you have files in /myth/music at one time?

Did the same thing myself first time I set it up. You might want to add Solved to the end of the title if that fixed your problem.

Bugger, I thought that would have fixed it. I have followed the advice in the known issues and created the directory. But Im still crashing back to the penguine screen. I had a look at my error logs and cant see anything that has been written during one of these crashes. One thing I have noticed in my error log is that i am having errors intermitantly about insuficient memory.

I only have a 256 meg of ram.... could this be whats causing my problems?

Can you post a snippet of the log file you are referring to? I wouldn't think 256Mb of memory would cause the problems you are describing.

Have you tried running mythfrontend with the -v all option?

Im a noobie but I am trying to learn and I have tried to find answers I just dont understand fully what gets outputed. Is there somewhere to learn what the errors mean.

Im in the process of doing the -v all

Just a thought, did you create a new directory for MythArchive to use or point to an existing one?

Code:
I have followed the advice in the known issues and created the directory. But Im still crashing back to the penguine screen.

If you created a new directory what user did you create the directory as?
It could be a permisions problem.

Configure it to use /tmp anyone can write there and that would eliminate a permissions problem.

I did what you suggested and used /tmp.... no luck. It still drops out. Sometimes it drops out on the Archive menu sometimes it gets past this and when i click find files to archive it drops out there.

I have about 16 gig of space left on my harddrive could that be causing it?

I also tried starting from xterm with -v all but it just drops back again when i go to the archive file and all xterm says is killed.

OK, let's get rid of these errors:
Code:
>/myth/tv/1007_20070622074123.mpg
>/myth/tv/1007_20070622074124.mpg

What you are after is all the fun stuff above that - Whatever led to the "Killed".

Has this ever worked? Is this a new install or an upgrade (and if so, from what version)?
Does R5F1 have the /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log file? If so, that should help pinpoint the problem.

I tried the code you gave me but this is what it sais

root@mythtv:/var/log/mythtv# /myth/tv/1007_20070622074123.mpg
bash: /myth/tv/1007_20070622074123.mpg: No such file or directory

ive checked and the files dont exist how do I get them out of the database?

How much free space do you need to do a burn?

Im thinking maybe its trying to free up space by auto expiring and cant so it crashes. What do you think?
