Post subject:  /myth/games not accessible to user mythtv...

Hi!
I'm using R5F27.
I just tried to send some games in /myth/games using the default samba share. It would not allow me write access.

After further investigation, I observed that the owner and group of the /myth/games folder is not mythtv, hence causing issue with permissions (even on the box, logged as mythtv, I only had read/execute access).

Here is a ls -la output of the /myth folder (no modification since installation):
Code:
drwxr-xr-x  6 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 16:26 democracy
drwxrwxr-x  3 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 17 15:12 gallery
drwxrwxr-x  6 root     root      4096 Dec 19 19:21 games
drwxrwxrwx  2 www-data www-data  4096 Dec 16 10:45 image_cache
drwxrwxr-x  2 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 10:45 ipodfeed
drwx------  2 mythtv   mythtv   16384 Dec 16 15:30 lost+found
drwxrwxr-x  3 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 17 15:12 motion
drwxrwxr-x  2 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 17 14:42 music
drwxrwxr-x  4 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 16:15 phone
drwxr-xr-x  2 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 16:14 pretty
drwxr-xr-x  4 root     root      4096 Dec 16 16:14 rrd
drwxrwxr-x  5 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 16:23 stream
drwxrwxrwx  2 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 16:14 streamtv
drwxrwxr-x  2 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 10:45 tmp
drwxrwxr-x  2 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 16 15:46 tv
drwxrwxr-x  5 mythtv   mythtv    4096 Dec 19 19:08 video

The simple solution to this issue (I'm somewhat of a linux newbie and did not want/know how to mess with groups) is to change the owner of the games folder (and its children) back to mythtv.

This is done (as root) with
Code:
chown -R  mythtv /myth/games/

For me, this fixed the issue and I can now access freely the /myth/games/* folders.

Shouldn't those folders have the same level of access as the other /myth folders (like /myth/video and /myth/music) by default? Could it be a simple mistake in a script somewhere? Could it be that for some reason, on my machine the mkmythdir script (or some other setup script) did not run correctly? Or could it be that I messed up something (either when enabling smb shares or whatever else) on my own?

Note that I did do a apt-get upgrade early on in my setup process. That upgraded a sh*tload of packages, including Xorg... Might have something to do with it?

Thanks for any info!

Edit: some info about my box:
KnoppMyth R5F27
P3 Coppermine 866 MHz
512 MB of PC100 SDRam
Geforce 4 MX 440
Ensoniq cheap PCI Sound Card
No TV tuners

I don't know if it's by design or an omission, but I informed the other testers about it. It isn't because you did an apt-get update. If it's not root for a specific reason, it'll probably be corrected for the next release.

Thanks for reporting this!
