I ran mythbackup command and I got this result
Code:
Checking for the existance of the DB dump file...
DB dump file exists. Checking the compression...
Compression looks OK. Checking DB dump contents...
Generating a list of tables and record counts in the DB dump...
Generating a list of tables and record counts in the live DB...
Comparing live versus saved tables...

> weatherscreens 2
> weathersourcesettings 7
Warning, table lists are not identical!

The backup is bad or already out of date!

Were you playing around with mythweather while the backup was running? Looks like you made some changes to the layout after backup started (settings are saved in the DB). All in all, nothing to be worried about.

Looks like someone upgraded to 0.21... You can safely ignore the failure. We've accounted for the differences in the updated backup in R5.5.

I might have upgraded to .21 I don't remember but in any case I have never been able to run the backup through the gui it always only gives me a Backup failed and never gives a reason. I recently found I could do it from the command line and tried it.
That's not important, Cecil you say that if I do need the backup it will work and the important info, like which episodes have been recorded, will be there.
Right?
Thank you.

My statement is only true based upon what you posted. If those errors (regarding MythWeather) is all you are see, then yes. Your backup is good. You're welcome.

I'll try to make a bundle of the new scripts and post it on the wiki this evening. They're fully compatible with R5F27 since that is the version where I originally tested them.

Just ran a backup from the KnoppMyth menu, and got the "Backup Failed" audio message.

I've looked for logs but can't seem to find them. How can I tell where the problem is, or why it failed?

It was the first backup made in 6 months, but the previous on ran ok.

Run checkbackup from a shell session as root. If you don't already know how see the Wiki for directions on BecomingRoot.

Thanks for the quick reply, and making me aware of checkbackup

I ran it and can see a few problems. This is the first one:

Code:
Backup tar file exists. Checking the compression...
Compression looks OK. Checking backup tar file contents...
Generating a list of the backup contents...
/bin/tar: ./var/lib/alsa/asound.state: Not found in archive
/bin/tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
Generating a list of the directory contents...
/usr/bin/find: ./var/lib/alsa/asound.state: No such file or directory
Comparing directory versus backup contents...

< ./home/mythtv/.serverauth.3443
Warning, file lists are not identical!

Then some db diffs and the following warning:
Code:
> tvchain 316
Warning, table lists are not identical!

The backup is bad or already out of date!

Should I just run another backup and check it again?

Thanks

No, looks like it's just a case of really evil stuff fooling it. Names with embedded whitespace are bad enough, but trailing whitespace (the tab displayed as \t) is just downright nasty. You'll almost certainly get the same error again. Everything else in that section would normally be ignored.

The tvchain issue looks like something caused it to reschedule.

Both of these look like harmless differences.

I think I'll just delete that one entry and see if that will fix that error and ignore the rest.

Thanks for the input and the quick reply.

Update: I looked at the file with wierd ?\t and found it to be a bogus file anyway so I deleted it, then ran my fixdb script. After doing that the backup and checkbackup ran clean.
