I use xine to watch DVDs and xvid files and now for some reason when I start either I get a message box pop up and then the video plays. The problem is then that I can't exit out of xine using cancel anymore, I have to force X to reload to get back to the front end. My remote works within xine, but I can't exit.

I connected a mouse and as I run my box through a TV the text is very hard to read in the options. When I quit xine using the mouse the frontend does not appear.

Is there a way I can output the box to a log file or something so I can find out exactly what the message is. My command line is:
Code:
xine --geometry 800x640+0-40 -pfhq --no-splach --no-logo

Assuming the --no-splach is a typo, you should be able to run xine from an xterm (maybe with the --verbose option?) to see what it's complaining about. You could simply redirect that output to a file.

Fix the --no-splash option, and run this from an xterm. With newer versions of xine there were some key binding name changes and it often produced a pop up complaining about those. Once you get the names it's easy to fix. The config files are here:
Code:
root@black2:~# ls -al /home/mythtv/.xine*
/home/mythtv/.xine:
total 68
drwxr-xr-x  2 mythtv mythtv  4096 Nov 26 18:02 .
drwxr-xr-x 20 mythtv mythtv  4096 Nov 17 12:46 ..
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv 22288 Nov 26 16:24 catalog.cache
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv 18601 Nov 26 18:02 config
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv 10330 Nov 26 18:02 keymap
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv    77 Nov 26 18:02 xine-ui_old_playlist.tox

/home/mythtv/.xine.raw:
total 72
drwxr-xr-x  2 mythtv mythtv  4096 May 25  2007 .
drwxr-xr-x 20 mythtv mythtv  4096 Nov 17 12:46 ..
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv 22420 May 25  2007 catalog.cache
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv 17487 May 25  2007 config
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv 12397 May 25  2007 keymap
-rw-r--r--  1 mythtv mythtv   173 May 25  2007 xine-ui_old_playlist.tox

You probably need to clean up the bad/missing names in the keymap file.

The problem was a keymap problem and after I generated a new default the problem went away. I have since reconfigured the file and fixed it and I have a backup, which unfortunately I have had to use on a couple of occasions.
