Post subject:  Recommened hardware question

Hi I'm new to this board.

I've looked through the hardware to avoid, but it is quite old.

After some reasonable success with Myth over the years, although never getting everything working, e.g. IR blaster would not work with UK EPG - WTF?, I've tried MythBuntu, and everything just works, except SVHS output, and my main TV doesn't have VGA.

Is there a matrix of what works with wohat types of hardware, I'm trying an EPIA M1200 with onboard graphics, but can't get SVHS output to work. I'm tried both the basic via and openchome drivers, it works during install, but won't play videos through it ?

What I have got working
Modern PC(2 yrs old), Nvidia Geforce, LCD screen, IR blaster, sky box, UK XMLTV EPG - jsut ran Mythbuntu, bit of tweaking.

Old P3-600 PC, S3 card, hopog250Tv card, crashing when changing channels from mce remote.

Any pointers to epia problems and solutions

Start here: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=PickingComponents It's old but most of the basics still hold. ESPECIALLY the bit about:

The absolute best advice on this count is to look for success stories in the KnoppMyth Tier 1 and Tier 2 forums at: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/index.php If you can't find a success story for the motherboard you're considering there is a good chance that you'll be breaking new ground with all the difficulties that entails. Motherboards with untried or "known problematic" chipsets are especially likely to cause you grief.

As you've noticed the problem with a "hardware matrix" is keeping it up to date, especially with volunteer labor who have higher priorities like getting things working, so you'll have to do th research yourself.

I am going to assume where you say "crashing" you mean the frontend exits to the desktop of Cecil & Dale? If so, when mine did that, I increased the memory to 384 and have not had the problem since. I suspect that the time delay of pulling from swap excedes a limit and it just exits the fe.

My box is an Old Dell 600mhz, RIVA TNT2 Model 64, with a 350 card. (using tv out)
