Post subject:  Watch TV only has HD Tuner

I have 2 HD QAM tuners, and one PVR150 using the S-VIDEO output of my cable box.

When I select Watch TV, I can only see the QAM channels, not the cable channels from the PVR150. Why is that?

Press Y to switch tuners. This should allow you to cycle through the channels available with the PVR 150.

When you go to 'watch tv', it uses the first tuner that was setup. So, if you want to use the 150 for live tv as the default, delete all tuner and reconfigure. You may also be able to create a profile for live tv that uses just the 150... But that is a route that I've not gone down.

So I guess there is no way to have it cycle through all of the channels and automatically switch to a different tuner when it hits a channel that the current tuner can't tune to?

If you have a channel that only appears on your PVR-150 tuners lineup it will change to that tuner automatically when you select it.

I only configure my HD tuners for HD channels, all my other channels are listed in a separate lineup for my PVR 150 & PVR 350 tuners. So when I change to a non HD channel it automatically changes to the first available PVR tuner that has the channel listed in it's lineup.

I wish mine worked that way. Tuners 1 and 2 are for HD QAM , so they only pick up the first 6 channels. Tuner 3 is my PVR150, which can view the rest of them. When I press channel up at the highest HD channel (13) it cycles right back to my lowest HD channel (2). It doesn't automatically go to the PVR150.

That would be the correct operation. Using the up or down channel just cycles through the channels on that tuner.

However if you enter the number channel number that you want to watchand then enter it will go first available tuner for that channel.

You will also you want to enable channel selection from channel guide from the setup menu.

I just added a PRV-150 tuner card to my R5F27 system that has ONLY had a single HD-3000 card in it during it's entire history. Now, when I use WatchTV, the PVR-150 comes up first every time. How can that be??

Do you think that deleteing both the HD-3000 and PVR-150 card and re-adding both will fix this?

Generally, the first card added is the card that should be used for live TV. However, if you've changed priorities, this may explain why the 150 gets used for live TV. You can try deleting both...

Have you enabled "Avoid conflicts between live tv and scheduled shows" (or something like that) under the setup, tv, general menu? This makes it default to using the last or lowest priority tuner for live TV.

Yes, I have the "Avoid conflicts between live TV and scheduled shows" box checked. Which way do you recommend I set it?

Does the "Input Priority" setting matter in the mythtv-setup Input Connections settings? I set the HD-3000 card to 5 and the PVR-150 to 1.

Another thought...Is there a settings file or a place in the database where I can look and see which card is considered "first"?

Initially I left the priority of the HD-3000 and PVR-150 cards at their default settings of zero in the "Input Priority" setting of the Input Connection settings. After I saw the PVR-150 card coming up first for Live TV, I changed the HD-3000 card to a 5 and put the PVR-150 to a 1. It didn't help.

For what it's worth, when I look at the Backend Status window of Mythweb, you can tell that the HD-3000 card is Encoder 1 and the PVR-150 card Encoder 3. That lines up with the order in which they were installed. (I suspect that Encoder 2 must be the analog side of the HD-3000 card?)
