Post subject: | Vid card question |
Been running R5F27 for some time. I've got an HD5500, but I don't use it much because R5F27 comes with an Nvidia driver that doesn't work as well with XvMC as previous versions, and I get wicked stuttering on 1080i ota channels using software decoding. So I'm upgrading my hardware so the software decoder can handle it. The only thing I have left to buy is a PCIe vid card. Browsing the Tier 1 forum helps, but its hard to search for my specific needs. Does anybody have a comment on the nVidia GeForce 6200 TC? Its only got 32MB on board and then it uses some system memory for anything else. I'm looking to display 1080i streams, software decoded (no XvMC) but brought down to 480p resolution (my current projector is 848x480p). I plan on a 720p projector within the next year or two. My system is AMD X2 3600 with 1GB ram, 300GB IDE HD, AV710 audio (optical digital out) HD5500, PVR-150 and a 500W power supply. |

I'm wondering what your current video card is that won't do 1080i with xvmc? I have a P4 2.0Ghz running R5F27 with an AGP FX5200. It plays back 1080i (recorded with an HD-3000), brought down to TVout (480i) just fine (with xvmc). I've heard that PCI video cards have a hard time with HD, are you currently on a PCI card? |

My current system is CPU limited- its an AMD XP2200 with an AGP card. The new system is the X2 3600- the old AGP card is fine but there's no AGP slot in the new system. The old system (the 2200) can handle 720p no problem, but chokes on 1080. It even stutters 720p when the commflag is actively working. |

Ok, that explains it. I thought your old system was the X2 3600! I was thinking, boy, that should handle 1080i, no problem. (And it probably will, as soon as it is finished!)

I hope so. I think I'm going to save myself a potential headache and buy the card with 128MB onboard. If anybody knows that the limited on card memory (32mb) will work fine, let me know in the next day so I can save myself another $10. Thanks! Dave |
