I'm thrilled with KnoppMyth, but I'm quite a linux n00b... :? Because of the fact that I have a Siemens DVB-C card that I would like to use in the near future, I am really interested in the R5 release of KnoppMyth. Is there any way of telling when the release of R5 will be? I know it is impossible to say exactly, but I guess the developers have given themselves a deadline...

When it comes to open source never assume the developers have given themselves a deadline.

While I do have a date in mind, I don't want to say X. If X rolls around and it isn't release people will be sayings "where is it? where is it?". Some if not most of what was request for R5 has already been incorporated into KnoppMyth. Nigel has already posted instructions on getting DVB into KnoppMyth.

My biggest request for R5 would be to get the sources cleaned up and use the official debian repositories so the dependancies quit being broken.

Exactly what I'm working on... You're right about now having a set date. I think the release date for R5, is the first that I do have a date in mind.

I was suffering this problem on motion scenes, and the most acceptable solution was to half the vertical resolution to 288 from 576 (i'm using PAL), and to crank up the bit rate to about 3500.

the quality is not quite as sharp, but the motion, and overall perceived quality is really good. It has the nice affect of reducing the load on the processor a bit too.

gary

I've found that the tearing problem is due to the fact that Myth is trying to play interlaced video but the scanlines being output to the screen don't match those on the TV 1:1. The best solution I've found (without having to use a special TV-out adapter and special X modelines) is to enable deinterlacing in Myth. There's a better deinterlacer than the one used when you select 'Deinterlace' in the Playback settings. To use it, make sure 'Deinterlace' is NOT selected and then in the "Custom Filters" field, type:

kerneldeint

This one looks quite nice, although everything you watch now runs at 25fps (in other words, less 'smooth' motion).

Any word on R5? Are we close to the hypothetical release date?
