Post subject:  Quicktime codecs for Internal Player?

Hello,

My Kodak camera saves movies in Quicktime format, and I am finally getting back to getting these working in KM. Everything used to work in R5F1, but the audio no longer works in R5F27. I get the video of the movies, but no audio. I know I had a bear of a time finding the right codecs on my main desktop, and couldn't for the life of me figure out what I finally did to get that working. So, I am hoping that someone here has figured out what I would need to install to get the audio working on Quicktime MOV files. I have already installed the w32codec pack using the webinstall script. So that doesn't have everything I need.

Any ideas?

You will probably find that the audio may be encoded as AAC. I found I had some MP4 videos like this and when I first played it they didn't work. Now for the life of me they do, I believe they are now being played through mplayer and not the internal player.

+1 - give mplayer a try. If it doesn't work out-of-the-box, do follow my HOWTO update mplayer guide. I can't remember if cesman included all the essential codec pack with R5F27 or not.

No codecs are included. However that is all one should need to add. There really is no need to recompile.

Ok,

I have done the MPlayer update and still no audio. When I run MPlayer from the command-line I get :
Code:
Opening audio decoder: [alaw] aLaw/uLaw audio decoder
AUDIO: 16000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 256.0 kbit/50.00% (ratio: 32000->64000)
Selected audio codec: [ulaw] afm: alaw (uLaw)

As the audio section. I tried the same movie on my SuSE PC using MPlayer (the same 1.0rc2-4.1.2 version) and get the same audio information. However, the auio plays.

So as far as I can tell there are two possible issues. Either the codec is missing (though the /usr/lib/codecs looks to be the same). Or the audio isn't getting out of my PC.

I have a Chaintech AV710 soundcard and am using the optical out to my receiver. I haven't had an issue with anything else, but maybe MPlayer is different. Could this be the issue? Tomorrow I'll try hooking up a pair of speakers directly to the card and see what happens.

So I guess this has turned into a soundcard question. When I plug in speakerrs to the analog out of the soundcard, those play the sound fine.

So, how do I get that audio to come out of the optical digital out on the AV710? As I mentioned, all other audio comes out via the optical connection.

When I add the -ao alsa:device=plughw=0.1 to my mplayer command the entire video goes into slow-motion.

I'd help you if I could, but I've never used a digital out before... does alsa allow you to switch between analog and digital?

Ok, I finally got mplayer working correctly. My command-line now looks like:
Code:
mplayer -fs -monitoraspect 16:9 -srate 48000 -ao alsa:device=plughw=0.1 %s

Adding the -srate option along with the -ao option fixed the slow playback of mplayer. Now all audio is output via my optical out.
