I upgraded my cable box at home to an HD box so now I have a spare standard def cable box that I want to use with an IR blaster. I have dual PVR150's in my box that are just hooked into lines from a coax splitter. Now if I set one tuner to connect to that box I should get better quality recordings correct? And as long as I set it into the first tuner in my box it should default to that one for recordings correct?

It depends. Using the external set-top box isn't necessarily going to give you a better recording than using the PVR-150's built-in tuner. The splitter may or may not be reducing quality, depending on the type of splitter, if the signal has already been split further upstream, etc.

It defaults to whichever card MythTV considers "Tuner 1," which is determined when you go through mythtv-setup the first time. That may or may not be the first tuner in your box. You could disconnect your cable connection to one of your tuners, then set something to record, and see if you get a picture or snow.
