Holy crap, this excites me!

I'm really hoping that this means we can expect to see a Netflix streaming player in MythTV?

Here's the link to the source code:

Yup. If you look through the list of components that are
released none of them are video-players, and it looks like all
of them are available from elsewhere. I'm glad that Roku is
following the rules, but it doesn't look like they're
open-sourcing anything that's specific to Netflix streaming
video service.

:-(

That's a bummer. I have a Netflix subscription, I would really like to stream video, but I would want to watch it on my TV. I already have a set-top box, why should I buy a new one? I should be able to stream to my MythTV system...

[quote="kmkittre]I should be able to stream to my MythTV system...[/quote]Then tell Netflix. If there was a streaming client that I could include with KnoppMyth, I would.

I'm sure you would!

I have let Netflix know and haven't gotten a response yet... It's obvious that this Roku player is running on Linux, so a Linux player already exists.

I wonder if somone can "rip" the applicable software out of a Roku player.

Not I and it wouldn't be included with the distro.

FYI, this is what I sent to Netflix:

I think that it is really neat that you guys are now offering movies and TV shows streaming over the internet. However, I wish you wouldnt limit my experience to either a Windows computer or a licensed 3rd party device. I already have a computer connected to my Television, and it is running Linux. I would love to use your service with my device, but you do not provide a streaming player for Linux. Can I expect to see a player in the future? The Roku player is running Linux, so obviously the software has been written... Will you release it to your subscribers?

Well, of course not ;-) I wouldn't expect you to break any laws, Cecil. We can't risk the creator of KnoppMyth going to jail...

It's just annoying that they've obviously already done the work of creating a streaming client for Linux. I'm just baffled as to why they have not released it to their paying subscribers. I can only assume that the MPAA has something to do with it...
