Post subject:  older cpu no longer supported in R5.5 SOLVED

A couple of tries to install a fe keep failing due to lack of SSE support on the cpu. I previously had R5F27 running on this machine. I couldn't remember how to find the cpu info but found this:
mplayer test.mpg
MPlayer dev-SVN-r26260-4.2.3 (C) 2000-2008 MPlayer Team
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) processor (Family: 6, Model: 4, Stepping: 2)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0
Compiled with runtime CPU detection.
mplayer: could not open config files /root/.lircrc and /etc/lircrc
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to read LIRC config file ~/.lircrc.

Playing test.mpg.
File not found: 'test.mpg'
Failed to open test.mpg.

I think I have another athlon that I can try.

This message looks like it's complaining about lirc -- the remote control interface part of linux. Is this the only thing failing? When you say you failed to install the frontend, can you be a little more specific? I'm sure some of the black-belts around here could help.

Whaaaa. The output you are seeing, you are misinterpeting. Mplayer is compiled w/ runtime CPU detection. It is simply stating the CPU doesn't support SSE. The problem is, mplayer cannot find test.mpg. AND YOU SHOULDN'T be running mplayer as root.

Oh and to really find out the details about your CPU:
Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo

I actually tried cpuinfo as a command it returned a "command not found", and also tried "locate cpuinfo" returned nothing. I was using the "mplayer test.mpg", knowing it would error on that file, to get the CPU: and CPUflags: information. And it does show that SSE is not supported. Not sure why I shouldn't have done this as root, like I said, I knew it would fail.

Thanks, I'll try and work on this some more tomorrow. I need to get the details for the error, something to do with opengl.

Cannot login to database? I'll work on this later and will start a new thread if needed. Thanks again to all.

Becuase you shouldn't run anything as root that should be ran as root. It is a BAD habit to get into. I'm locking this thread as the subject is inaccurate. State as new thread and state what the real problem is you are trying to resolve.
