Hello,

I have many problems with my main KM system that I wound up tracking down to the fact that my SATA controller on the motherboard was set to "Legacy" mode. Once I changed that to "Native" and reinstalled, all was well.

My problem is that I am now upgrading one of my FE computers that has a SATA drive, and it doesn't have any SATA options in BIOS. And judging from the fact that the drive shows up as /dev/hda it looks like it is operating in "Legacy" mode. This wasn't ever an issue with R5F27, but it seems to be a big problem in R5.5. I have tried booting with the CD as a live FE, and have done the full install as well. Both show the same problems I was experiencing on my main system prior to switching to "Native" mode. The interface is very slow, and I can play any recorded shows. When I play live TV, it is extremely choppy (like one frame per second), including the audio.

How was R5F27 different in the way it handled SATA drive in "Legacy" mode? How can I make R5.5 behave in a similar manor?

Thanks,

I guess the main question is: What changed from R5F27 to R5.5 in how SATA drives are handled in legacy mode? I know in legacy mode they show up as PATA drives (/dev/hdx). And I have read that Cecil removed something that made all drives show up as /dev/sdx. Would that also cause the drive to be much slower?
