Post subject:  Changing cannel from the command line

Greetings!

Background information: I'm using lirc to send channnel change signals to my cable box, and everything is set up there correctly. However, whenever the computer reboots (usually due to a power outage), the tuner card switches back to channel 2. This means that I can no longer record programs, and must go through the lengthy process of stopping the backend, removing the channel change command, starting the backend, changing to channel 3, and then setting everything back the way it was before.

Is there an easy way to change the channel the tuner card is using, such as from the command line? I figure if I can find out how to do that, it'll be easy enough to create a script and have it run whenever the computer restarts.

Thanks in advance!

You didn't specify what type of card you are using. If I'm reading it correctly, I had the same issues with my PVR150 http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16725
For the PVRx50 it would be
Code:
ivtv-tune -c 3

I added
Code:
[startup] {ivtv-tune -c 3}
to my /home/mythtv/.fluxbox/apps so every time fluxbox starts is resets the tune to channel 3
Other tuners will probably use different commands (v4l2-ctl perhaps)

In mythtv-setup, under Input Connections, there's a "Preset Tuner to channel" option that's supposed to change the tuner card's channel to a fixed channel (like 3 or 4) if you are recording the RF output of your cable box. I've never used it so don't know if it works or not.

Also, just a note that recording via RF will give you a lower quality recording than connecting via composite or (even better) s-video.
