Has anyone seen this yet?: http://www.boxee.tv/

Seems like it would be a pretty cool plugin for MythTV: watch Hulu easily through the frontend?

Boxee is based off of XBMC which has built in mythtv support.
I have not tried it yet, but it should work as a front-end

In case anyone is curious, XBMC will compile under KnoppMyth R5.5. However, you need to install some extra packages first. It seems to be fairly stable, but I have not really used it much.

There is not a lot of documentation out there on using it with a mythtv backend. In the old days, there was a python script plugin. Now I think there may be built-in support but I'm not sure what protocol version it speaks. Something like mythtv://backend.ip.address or such. Maybe davilla can shed some light on this.

in xbmc -> video -> add source

mythtv://mythtvusername:mythpassword@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (specifying the IP)

for example

mythtv://mythtv:watchtv@192.168.2.200

name the video source, then when you go into it you will see

LiveTV
Recordings
Guide

Here's the xbmc forum thread

If you have any problems, let me know which version of XBMC you are running. There was an issue that was fixed in svn and should be in the ppa builds.

I'm running svn... but I built a month or so ago. Probably need to build again.

I seem to have lost my "compiling XBMC from SVN on Linux" link. As I remember it took me a while to find it. If I remember correctly, I used an Ubuntu guide as a base line.

[edit]
I found this one:
http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=HOW-TO_comp ... ource_code
but it's not the one I remember using before.

There is an possible easer method as svn has a nightly build via Ubuntu PPA.

Can't install boxee. This is what I did
-Added xbmc's ppa repos for gutsy
-apt-get install xbmc
-apt-get install curl (was getting curl error when starting xbmc)
-restarted knoppmyth box
-Alt-X and did xbmc and it started!
-mythbackend didn't start, had to hand edit /home/mythtv/.mythtv/mysql.txt: backend ok

-Tried to install the gutsy version of boxee, got stuck with libfaad2-dev, which needed libdfaad2, however that wont install because too many things depends on libfaad0.
-Tried to install boxee via source, but there is no ./configure and it said not to use build.sh

-EDIT-
Just to see if I can get this working. I did apt-get remove libfaad0, which removed some packages, some I know I need: (will try the ones from guty's repos later..):
ffmpeg, libavcodec52, libavdevice52, libavformat52, libfaad0, libquicktime1, libxine1-ffmpeg, libxine1-plugins, motion, transcode, xine-ui

downloaded libfaad2 and libfaad2-dev from ubuntu gutsy and did dpkg -i on them. then apt-get install boxee. It installed it /opt/boxee, so ran it from command line and it worked. Only problem, some video sites (hulu, comedy central) dont play. Others on the boxee forums are having same problem, so we are waiting on a workaround. (It works fine on my kubuntu intrepid machine - just did apt-get install boxee on it)
