Hi,

I have installed R5.5 and things went real smooth. Chapeau!!!!

The only issue is that I don't hear the audio when I try to watch TV or
recordings. I'm using the digital Audigy SE card, and the driver was installed
automatically with R5.5. I know it is because I can play audio from a
command line using:

mplayer homer-doh.wav -ao alsa:device=hw=0,0
(homer-doh.wav is just a wav file I transferred onto the machine)

I went through all of the instructions here:
http://alsa.opensrc.org/DigitalOut

From that I was able to find my digital devices and play audio also
using 0,1 through 0,3

That set of instructions said that

aplay -D hw:0,0 homer-doh.wav

should also work. But it didn't. Maybe mythtv uses aplay to play audio and
I need to so something to make it work???

Or maybe it is simply a settings issue?
Before, with R5F27 I had these settings working with the same hardware:

Audio output device: ALSA:hw:0,1
Passthrough output device: ALSA:iec958:{ AEs0 0x02 }
Enable AC3 to SPDIF passthrough (checked)
Enable DTS to SPDIF passthrough (checked)
Use internal volume controls (checked)
Mixer Device: /dev/mixer
Mixer Controls: PCM

There are several options that I didn't set before or are new. Here's what their defaults are.

Aggressive Sound card Buffering (unchecked)
Max Audio Channels: 5.1
Upmix: Passive
Master Mixer Volume: 100
PCM Mixer Volume: 100

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!
FRA

Can you get audio from anything within Myth? (Play Music, DVDs, etc.)

Start with running /usr/local/bin/twk_audio.pl --implement digital and see if that gets you where you want to be.

If not, set Max Audio channels to Stereo (yes, really) and uncheck Use Internal Volume Controls if it is not already. EDIT: And try setting Audio Output Device to ALSA:spdif or ALSA:digital /EDIT

Finally, if none of the above works, open an Xterm and tail -f /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend and go to Watch TV. What does the log show you?

It was the stereo setting! Audio is working perfectly with ALSA:spdif and Max Audio channels: stereo. Changing from ALSA:hw:0,1 to ALSA:spdif and ALSA:digital made no difference. As soon as I switched to stereo it started working. Internal volume controls are still on.

Thanks!!! The box is working perfectly now :)

It sets your system to use digital audio, if it recognizes your sound chip. See Human's post for information on how to gather that information, and maybe Human will add it in the next revision.
