Does anyone now if manually-created udev rules are still required in r5.5 to ensure consistent numbering of /dev/video# devices? On my machine it looked like my /dev/dvb devices were being numbered consistently across boots without the creation of a custom udev rule, but on my daughter's machine I believe I just saw the "random renumbering" problem occur on her two /dev/video devices.

Thanks!

Marc

A few reboots later and I can confirm that udev rules are still required. I have two cards in my daughter's machine:

1. PVR-150
2. Pinnacle digital card that also does analog.

The PVR-150 randomly flips between /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 from boot-to-boot. The only reason I was wondering if life had changed is because I no longer see this behavior on my own machine which has 3 cards:

1. PVR-150 (analog)
2. HD-5000 (digital)
3. Kworld 115 (digital)

/dev/dvb0 and /dev/dvb1 remain quite consistent across reboots without my having to create a custom udev rule. Under R5F27 this was not the case and a udev rule was required.

Does anyone know how name stability without a custom udev rule was achieved for the /dev/dvb devices? I'm wondering if the same concept could be used to eliminate the need for a custom udev rule for /dev/video device....

I've not had to use udev for DVB devices, only the PVR (150 and 500).
