I am running Knoppmyth R5F27, and recently got an LCD HDTV. Currently, the KM box connects to the TV (and the rest of the house through a modulator) by S Video. I now have the option of connecting the KM box to the new TV by VGA, however, I need to keep the S Video out active.

I have searched and read all that I can find, and have tried many different xorg.conf settings. I can get 1360x768 to the LCD TV by VGA, and I can get 800x600 out the S Video port, but I cannot get both at the same time.

Is what I'm trying to do even possible? If not, I'll quit trying. If it is, can anyone give me any help with my xorg.conf?

My video card is a GeForce4 MX 4000.

Thanks to anyone who can offer any advice.

Allan

AFAIK, S-Video out is limited to 800x600 max, so the answer would be no.

I have been trying something similar (1080p DVI and 1280x768 VGA) for a while, and as far as I can tell, it isn't possible. Twinview needs the same resolution on both ports.

You can probably get a VGA to composite/Svideo/Component adapter to synch with the wide XGA.

Thank you for your input. My 'google' research was about 50/50 - some swear it works, others swear it can't work. I can certainly understand why it shouldn't work, so I find it easy to believe that it really isn't possible.

I even went so far as to try and get a widescreen (16:9) output through the s video connector, but haven't had any luck with that, either.

At this point, I guess I just have to live with the black bars at the top & bottom of the new TV, or maybe I'll just buy a WD TV HD Media Player (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=572) - $100 is a lot cheaper than building another Myth Box.

Thank you again for your input.

Allan
