I have a pchd-5500 card, which mythtv sees as two input devices; one dvb device for digital channels, and one vl4 device for analog channels. The two devices seem to be able to operate at the same time under at least some conditions; in R5.5 I could have both devices recording at the same time.

In R6 it hasn't been quite so easy. If the analog device starts recording while the digital one is already recording things are usually ok. If its the other way around, or if the two start recording at the same time then both recordings can come out garbled (the one from the analog channel will come out as static, the digital channel skips and has colors messed up).

So, two questions: First, is it known what makes the two devices play well (or not) together? Second, is there a way to set up the devices so that they won't try to record at the same time?

I'd be interested in the eventual resolution to this as I have been holding back my HD-5500 upgrade from R5.5 to R6 till things quiet down.

The KWorld115 is similar to this. See the wiki for SQL steps that may or may not help.

4. Now we need to set the analog as a child to the dvb in the mythconverg database.

The recording groups feature of input connections is supposed to help with this. You declared them as members of a group of which only one can be used at a time.
