I have an older toshiba laptop that has composite out and rather high specs for a P3, I want to make it into a front end for a second TV that I can relocate wherever I want. It's a satellite pro 6000 with trident video (crappy but linux should have driver support) anyway on to my first question. it's not able to link into my main myth box (which is front end/backend). the default mythtv/mythtv username/password dont work, the mythtv/******** I put in for myth web doesnt work, the username and password I put in dont work, and it shouldnt be root... what pass word is it looking for to get into the database? BIG HINT (the next question will relate to how to use the composite out, so if the answer is, THERE IS NO WAY, I'd like to know so I can find a new junker to start with) |

IIRC by default MySQL is bound only to localhost; you have to change the bind-address value in /etc/mysql/my.cnf to something visible to your network. |

Er, yes. Preferrably your local intranet IP (e.g. 192.168.whatever), assuming you have one, else you'll open up your MySQL database to the world, which you probably don't want. |

well that tip worked great but the video didnt... it chugs verrrry slow I'm betting the acceleration on the trident video is not enabled anyone know how to make it work? it's a toshiba satellite pro 6000, I'll try and find the details on the graphics. Ubuntu had issues with this card too, so I'm not holding on to hope I need ideas. I'm also scraping together another computer, but a laptop just lends its size and portability to this idea. then I could drag it to ANY TV I want. I dunno, plan B is my old PVR's guts with a Nvidia Geforce 2 GTS with TV out. I'll get something working, even if I have to scrap some more garbage computers to make it work! |

Sorry if it's buried in there somewhere, but it wasn't obvious to me what output resolution you're trying to use, and that makes a big difference in the CPU/GPU power required for video output. Based on the capture cards it sounds like you're still running SDTV but that doesn't mean you don't have the display at 800x600, 1024x768 or even higher, and scaling up (and possibly then down again for an NTSC output) is going to hurt your performance. Oh and check the trident drivers to make sure they have Xv support, if not video playback is going to struggle horribly. |

right now its at whatever standard resolution it gave me, I'm betting 800x600 since its smaller than the screen (old square 4:3 LCD laptop) as for the TV out, I have no idea how to make that work sorry for the way I write, it does kinda show you how thoughts pile up in my head though *edit* and the exact part is "Trident CyberALADDIN-T graphics controller; 16MB UMA internal video memory" |

First step, check the X log for these two things. - What resolution is it using? - Is it successfully loading the Xv extension? |
