I am running R6.00.08 with a nvidia FX5950 Ultra video card.

I have decided to start using this machine as my frontend. Can someone please put me on the right track with setting up tvout?

I have tried setting the LINHES settings > Display settings to TV out and rebooting but it doesnt seem to do anything.

Do i need to research nvtv? nvidia-settings? edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

Thanks

Hello thanks,

Sorry but what's the problem? What have you done about it? Are you upgrading or installing? You need to at least describe the problem and what you've tried so far.

What do you mean by enabling tvout?

Mike

Do you only have the tv connected to the box, or do you also have a monitor attached? If both, then you may need to enable dual head support. Try using the nvidia-settings tools.
If you only have the tv attached, then you may have to add something to your "Device" section of your xorg.conf to tell it to use an output other then the vga.
Code:
    Option         "UseDisplayDevice" "TV"
#    Option         "TVOutFormat" "COMPONENT"
#    Option         "TVStandard" "HD480p"
#    Option         "TVOutFormat" "S-VIDEO"
    Option         "TVStandard" "HD1080i"

I was using s-video before but my new box allows me to use component to the tv so I added the last option, Even though I the display is set at 720, setting the option at 720 did not work for me, so I set it to 1080 and it works fine (except for the over-scan that I can't turn off).

mike - whats with the attitude?

uteck - thanks for your help. So editing the xorg.conf file is the correct way to do this. I have never used TV out before and after spending an hour searching around I wasn't sure which way to go about it. I will have a play around in xorg.conf

I think you're misreading him. We get a lot of people asking very poorly defined question, who sometimes get snarky when you suggest stuff they've already tried (but of course they didn't bother to mention it). Mike was asking you to clarify so that he could help.

yeah got it working mate. Thanks for the phone support!

As per uteck's suggestion I added these to my xorg.conf

Code:
Option         "UseDisplayDevice" "TV"
Option         "TVOutFormat" "PAL-B"

Then I stuffed around trying different pinouts I found online until I got one to work. The card doesnt switch to TVOUT until mythfrontend is loaded, but that's good enough for me.

Still not sure why my video card doesn't automatically switch to TVOUT like other people have described though. Maybe its a result of me not having the proper dongle for it.

Your probably right about that, there may be something in the dongle that returns a signal to the card to let it know that it is connected.

Glad you got it working.
