Hi guys

I tried to play a DVD for the first time the other night with no luck. I swapped my old CDROM for a pioneer DVD drive and expected it to just work.

When i insert a DVD it switches automatically from the main menu to the optical disks menu so it obviously knows the disk has been inserted. When I press play DVD though it switches to a blank black screen for a few seconds then goes back to the menus.

If i go to Rip DVD I can see the disk label and all the chapters, but trying to rip any of them fails. It looks like it is starting then a message pops up that there are no jobs and that I could rip a DVD?

I tried all this with a fresh R6.00.08 and then after the latest updates (2 days ago) and there was no change. I have also tried 2 different DVD drives to rule that out.

System:
R6.00.08 combined backend / frontend with latest updates
P4 2.6GHz Hyperthreading
Intel D865PERL Mainboard (Intel 865PE Chipset)
2GB RAM
250GB IDE auto installed
2xDvico Lite DVB Tuner
1xDvico Plus DVB Tuner
2x320GB SATA LVM for media
Pioneer IDE DVD R/W

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

thanks mate. that gave me something to search for.

I have never used mythtv as a frontend before - I had no idea about all these "issues"! xbmc just works...

No probs, theres a menu item in R6 which from memory gives you a tropical fruit.

Good luck

Nathan

I had an error when I tried to rip a disk to day, it said "missing /var/lib/mythdvd/temp" and the rip immediately failed. I made a link from /myth/video (were I want the rip to be stored) to /var/lib/mythdvd/temp (after making the mythdvd directory since it did not exist) and it worked fine, I did not try playing the dvd, so not sure if making the missing directory's will solve that.

well i got a bit further..

found the menu option and installed the software. It now gets as far as the "it is illegal to copy etc etc" message then hangs. I have to restart the machine to get the frontend responding again.

time for some more reading ;)
