Using onboard sound, nforce3 250gb ac'97 codec
It was working perfectly, always worked in older versions.
/myth filled up and I lost my video until I emptied /myth (it only filled up because I copied my old recordings back into /myth as root, I needed to chown them into mythtv user) My sound stopped working after this. I have no sound, no volume control and no mute. I eventually found that the sound card was gone. so I found which audio driver for the sound. I did a modprobe snd-intel8x0 and now the sound at least shows up in lspci. I still can't hear anything and it doesn't seem to persist between reboots. I am at my wits end, I don't know what else to try.

EDIT: I ran alsaconfig and now mplayer will play mp3s but I still get no audio from mythtv.

You sure it's not muted? Try running alsamixer to see. If that fails, re-reun alsaconf and see what if it finds it.

100% positive it wasn't muted. Either way, running the audio configuration in the linhes config menu in mythtv itself managed to fix my problem somehow. I think alsaconf got ran in the background but I have no clue what else it did. Either way sound appears to be working in mythtv and mplayer and probably anything else that should be on this system. :/

Who knows why having /myth fill up managed to wreck my sound until I blundered into a solution.
