It would be nice if future version numbers of LinHES began with at least 3 characters before any punctuation occurred. Such as R62.xxx or R602.xxx. That way these terms could be used in the forum search function.

As it is now the forum search function ignores 2 letter terms and treats periods like a space.

As shown by trying to search for R6 or R5.5 - no hits! Searching for R55 does return hits because some people entered it that way.

As an alternative, you can try searching with google:

"R5.5" site:http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/

Google searches of this site are hit and miss. For some reason many posts are not indexed by google.
Case in point, searching for the following should return this thread, but it doesn't!
Code:
"R602.xxx" site:http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/
Doing the same search in the forum's search function does return this thread.

It's possible that google hasn't crawled the site since you posted...

I think that we should change the searching, or the organization of the site, not the naming of the releases. Perhaps the search function can be configured to not treat periods as spaces?

I totally agree... the forum search is broken, fix it instead. I'm not really a fan of the KM/LH version numbering system myself, but I'd never advocate changing it just to make the forums work. That'd be like dealing with the Y2K issue by changing the calendar! :)

The releases used to be more than 2 characters long without periods, like R5E50 and R5F27. These searched fine. I was just thinking that maybe we could go back to something like that.

IMHO rewriting the search function would be a monumental task, and going back to the old versioning system for future releases would be dead simple.

Just throwing out ideas to see if anything sticks to the wall ;-)

I thought these forums were a template type thing. They look alot like other forums I've visited. I would think there was an option somewhere in settings to allow 2 letter words or only allow r6. As I have stated in another thread R6 IMHO is significantly different enough to warrent it's own forum/site. I know there is a major overhaul in the works. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... c&start=15
In general I have always been frustrated by this forums search function.
