Happy new years all.

I am just wondering, is there an easy command I can run to update my video codecs library? A lot of videos out there these days wont play (especially HD rips), and I thought it might be because of old codecs. I am attempting to play these videos with mplayer through the myth videos library.

I am running R5F27, and yeah I know that is probably part of the issue. I have tried all other linhes versions for awhile, but I could never get anything nearly as stable as my R5F27 (I have run it for over 10 months without a reboot or modification with daily recording/watching usage).

Thanks!

Have you tried 5.5? I found it to be the most usable, and it will play practically anything.

That said, try the codecs from mplayer's web site:
