try making that file /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc instead of /home/mythtv/.lircrc

i have a question that bothers me.. i have seen this type of thing several times. IF a symbolic link is just a link to the file.. why would it matter what file you edit.. the link or the symbolic link??

It makes no difference whether you edit an actual file or a link.

The example you used with the lircrc files doesn't apply to a symlink discussion, on my system anyway. They are two separate files.

You never edit a symlink. It is just a link to the file. For instance:
/home/mythtv/.lircrc is linked to /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc
If you attempted to edit /home/mythtv/.lircrc, I don't really edit it. Rather /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc is editted.

So if you need to edit a file that has a symbolic link, you can edit either one with the same result, since your are editing the same file right?

This doesnt mean you cant edit a symbolic link... just that it really just edits the file it is linked to. SOrry to beat a dead horse, i just wanted to make sure i know.. what i think i know :D

LOL sddave

actually in 2003 billy boy has actually implemented something very similar to simlinks.

gr8nash look at it this way you can approch a door from the left or the right, but you end up going through the same door either way.
