Post subject:  Mysql issues during upgrade to .16 debs

After apt-get iinstall I get the following messages in my backend log when trying to restart the backend

Unable to connect to database!
Driver error was [1/-1]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Access denied for user: 'mythtv@localhost' (Using password: YES)

Couldn't open database

As far as I can tell the password in mysql.txt and in the mysql permissions tables are both mythtv.

I have removed the debs and reinstalled them and still get the same error. I have not run mythtv-setup......

Any ideas or help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance for you help

This came up with the R4V4 upgrades too. You may need to either fix the password on the DB or the scripts. Which one you pick depends on which seems like the way that'll cause you the least grief in the long run. Search the forum for details...

OBTW - What are you upgrading from? I didn't have any issues with an upgrade from an R4V4 base system which had previously been upgraded with 0.15.1 debs. Of course I may have fixed a DB password issue at the time of that original upgrade and forgotten it....

Same as you. R4V4 w/ 15.1....

I thought I had all my passwords synched to 'mythtv'

Using Webmin I changed the mythtv user password to mythtv (I say changed because it is encrypted so I set it again to mythtv)

Using vim I checked that the password in mysql.txt was set to mythtv

Are there any other places I should check?

Thanks

I just asked this question last night. A solution is posted in that thread.

I forgot to mention that I searched prior to posting. I have not had any success with my searches. I'll keep looking. Thanks for trying.

My problem is not the same. Yours appears to deal with running mythtv-setup twice and having to back some of the changes out of the database and trying again. I don't see anything having to do with database access denied errors. Unless you have a different post that I didn't see. Thanks for the idea

I am sure this is primarily a password synchronization issue...

Search for "mysql password mythtv" and requiring all terms should come up with ~29 articles. You want ones from back around May/June when R4V4 came out and was followed up by R4V4.1, there are a number of them that appear relevant including this one: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1554

Other than that I'd suggest a similar search over on the myth users mailing list at: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/ The answer from there seems to be that these are the two relevant places.

Further research may turn up the need to "grant" access or something if fixing the password in the database and the mysql.txt file doesn't solve your problem.

You may also want to restart the servers to make sure that they don't have bad values cached.
