Post subject:  crashes with ogg encoding in R4V4.1 & R4V5

Hi, everyone. I've been using KnoppMyth for a few weeks now. Because I was focusing on TV-related issues, I didn't try Import CD until a couple of days ago, and I just finished diagnosing it as far as I think I can for now. Maybe someone here has some insights on what to do next.

In R4V4.1 and R4V5, the ogg-related libraries and utilities seg fault or fail with floating point exceptions on my hardware (see signature block). Because Import CD makes use of these libraries by default (when you encode as ogg), Import CD is also failing.

From the command line, ripping (using cdda2wav) always works perfectly, as does encoding as mp3 (using lame). Similarly, when Import CD is configured to encode to mp3, it always works perfectly, too.

I tried "apt-get install" on all the *ogg* and *vorbis* packages to see if an update would fix the crashing, but it doesn't.

The same versions of the ogg libraries and utilities on my Mandrake 10.0 box (also an Athlon XP) work perfectly. One main difference between KnoppMyth and Mandrake 10.0 is kernel versions - 2.4.* vs 2.6.*. Not sure what else would be at play here.

I realize a lot of people might not actually be using Import CD, or if they are, they're encoding as mp3, but if people wouldn't mind, please try out Import CD and/or try cdda2ogg in the shell and post here if it fails or works, along with your hardware configuration.

I'd especially appreciate a suggestion on how to proceed in my diagnosis from here. Maybe the answer is to wait for R5?

Following up on my own post here for the sake of documentation.

It seems that the problem was not with the OGG encoder, but rather due to overheating. The OGG encoder pegged the CPU, which exacerbated my cooling problem. When cooling was addressed, OGG encoding worked consistently.
