Post subject: | Combining pcHDTV and SMP features? |
I've been using the pre-compiled pcHDTV kernel thoughfully supplied in the /usr/src/debs directory. Now I've got a shiny new hyperthreaded P4 in my system and I think I need SMP to take best advantage of it. I'm guessing that the pre-compiled SMP kernel does NOT have the same mods as the pcHDTV version. What is my best path to kernel nirvana? Here's my guess: 1. Untar kernel sources and update /usr/src/linux symlink. 2. Copy config from /boot. 3. Do makemenu config to add SMP. 4. Recompile kernel. 5. Install kernel and hope I don't make a SetTopBrick I'm a little fuzzy on exactly what the differences are between the pcHDTV kernel and non-pcHDTV. I'm not sure if code is added or taken away or both. Any advice from those more wise than I? (Which includes just about everybody when it comes to Linux kernels.) Joe |

I don't think any code is taken away, but I do know there is a pchdtv patch that is applied to that kernel, so you would have to apply that patch before compiling with smp support. |

If I remember correctly (think this is posted on the forum someplace), the pcHDTV patch wouldn't apply cleanly w/ V4L2. So, the pcHDTV kernel is "vanilla" w/ pcHDTV. |
